I have an original Leatherman Wave, and the pivots are so tight on it that I have to grab a second tool, to pry the tools out of the Wave!

I've lived with the problem for years because I had no idea how to fix it. Then it occurred to me somebody on this forum must know the answer. So, better late than never.

The driver bit for the Leatherman Wave pivot is unique: it looks like a security (post) 5-point torx. Can you tell me where to get such a bit at a reasonable price? (Preferably where I don't have to spend $8 for shipping?)

Thanks

Yup. I always suspected you had to work for Leatherman to get one. None of mine have ever been that tight, but I've only had eight or nine of them.

Fool that I am, I ask a question and then answer it. But I don't like the answer. The answer is: $51. My Wave is not worth that much. I was looking for a $5 solution.

I wonder what industry uses these proprietary 5-point security torx, I got the idea it was the automobile industry, something with auto electronics. Maybe I just drop by my dealer and ask...

hi bolstermanic,

i once needed that exact torx-driver too for my LM Sidekick and Wave. i searched and searched but found onlhy a few online stores that would sell and ship them, but credit cards only or a special clearance-form only, which i don't have, neither

i contacted AG Russell and asked him if he could help me, and guess what? he could. he bought a few of those online and gave me one for free, what a guy

so, maybe ask him? the tool needed is a "Torx Plus #10 TR (tamper resistant)"

good luck, i know it's a hard thing to find

ps. torx plus has 5 lobes instead of 6 for regular torx, and t+ has a hole in te center

Outstanding. I'll give it a try, thank you!
