newer vs older military

How do you know if your military is one of the newest models. I have heard of many distinctions between older and newer. Is there really a difference?

As I understand it, the change to the three screw pocket clip coincided with a number of other significant design changes and is a great place to start in terms of selection; any with this clip are quite recent. At least that is what I chose to do.

Welcome,The easier way is to look at the lettering on the blade.If it is engraved,silver or a slight gold tinge on the letters (older)
New ones are lasered black letters with many having the A look like this /All Ats-34 blades are older issue.Theres only probably 40 different test military styles and then the issued and then the sprint runs and the various combos,all different times.Try to get a black blade military

I ordered a military from Outdoor America Store; what are the chance that it will be a new model?
And if it is not, should I return it--it was only $80.

RE:ODA Milies; I got one from them for near than price and it was the old-style engraving and the new steel. Heck no don't return it-buy another newer one in case you lose that one! Sick advice from a hopeless spyderholic..You should look for a Forum Military..those have a bug inlay in MOP and the newer laser engraving and plenty of it..

did the military you got have two or three screws attaching the clip?

Actually I believe they made them with the oldstyle engraving, three screw clip and ATS34 steel, with the improvements in the lock as well.

They sure did. The one I just acquired last month is this way: ATS-34 steel, plain edge &amp; diamond engraved and with a three screw clip. The action is superb and tight so I suspect the lock improvements are in there.

This knife goes well with my black letter (laser engaved with the funny &quot;A&quot<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> serrated model in CPM-440V steel.

I acquired a Milie from ODA with 440V steel, plain edge, diamond engraved and with a three screw stainless steel clip.

Sounds like there may be lots of variations are out there.
