I have a Police Model that I use for rock climbing. Spyderco's serrations are the best at cutting webbing and rope and such. BUT... the other day I was cutting some nylon webbing while sitting on a rock and I dropped my knife, I know, I know, the sin of all sins. Anyway the knife oly fell about a foot and when it hit it snapped off about 4/3" of the tip. My question is do you think the warranty will cover that? It only fell a foot and in my oppinion that souldn't be enough to break the tip. OR, am I f*cked?

Hi L.E.O. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Sorry your first post had to be a problem.

I'm assuming that you meant 3/4" of the tip. This sounds unusual. I would suggest you contact Mike at Spyderco Warrantee & Repair.

Doesn't sound like a warranty problem to me. I sent in an abused Endura about 18 (?) months ago, the blade was scratched and trashed, and the tip was broken off. this damage could not have been covered by the warranty. For a nominal charge Spyderco re-sharpened and polished the blade and ground a new tip. Yeah, it was a little shorter, but I actually liked the angle. I "lost" it about two months later. Hi L.E.O.! Welcome to Spyderland! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

As for your problem, I can see it two ways:
First, dropping the knife may constitute abuse and viod the warranty. Therefore, no free repairs/replacements.

Second, even dropping the knife should not have produced enough force to break the tip. Manufacturer's defect, therefore, free knife/repair.

Spyderco seems to be a group which will value a customer over a few bucks, so they might replace the knife to keep you as a customer.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Hmm, post from owner of spyderco:

&quot;I'm assuming that you meant 3/4&quot; of the tip. This sounds unusual. I would suggest you contact Mike at Spyderco Warrantee &amp; Repair.&quot;

Seems to me that should end all questions of wether or not it will be taken care of.
