My dad was an engineer at GE. He made jigs and fixtures out of a plastic material that is similar to printed circuit boards in appearance but it was available in many different thicknesses. Anybody have an idea what this might be?

C/K,
I use to be a pattern maker (aircraft tooling- jigs and fixtures). I think what you are refering to is High Temp. Fiberglass. It has the same dark brown color as a P.C. board. We built engine Nacelles for an MD-80 for Boeing that were as big as a skateboard pipe! I don't know if you're entertaining the idea for making scales of this material, IMO I don't think it would be practical. It is quite messy to lay up... High Temp Epoxy resin, laminating layers of glass cloth, bagging and heating in an oven to cure. The CF used in knife and most applications is "pre-preg". The resin is pre impregnated into the cloth for easy lay up. There is no mixing resin and coating CF with resin. It's a lot simpler to use.
