I noticed the other day that the tip on my vg-10 caly3 was suspiciously absent... as in detached.

...Annoying... particularly since I dont recall doing anything that may have adversely affected said point...

Emotions aside - now to the question - any tips for restoring its point?

Well, the tip of my Caly3 isn't particularly pointy. Do you just mean that the tip isn't needle sharp, or what?

How much broke off? If it's less than .5 mm, you can probably restore it by just giving the knife a good sharpening, concentrating on the front portion of the blade. If it's more than that, it will take a more serious effort to restore it.

You could grind down the spine. A diamond stone followed by the sharpmaker rod grooves would work.

No.. no I mean its actually gone... looks to be in the vicinity of 1mm - possibly less... surprising because I dont recall doing anything to upset the tip.

Gah let me go find a digital camera and post a pic.

With an assortment of benchstones you could repair it yourself. It might take what seems like a considerable amount of time, 2-3 hours total depending on the courseness of the stone you start with. If that's the route you want to take you can probably find good how-to's on the internet.
If you don't have the equipment, or are unsure if you want to fix it yourself, the :spyder: factory can do it for you:

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
