About a year ago while in the millitary I bought a Police edition Spyderco knife. I enjoy the hell out of it. This evening while working on a project it broke beyound repair. The tip busted off a bit and the locking mechanism completly shatered. The knife now folds in both directions and I can't do anything with it. As a side note the Clip broke off a while back but I didn't want to take the time to try and have it repaired becuase I don't like to be without it.

What can I do to get it fixed? Is there anything I can do? Please help. I would hate to think I'm out a $130.00 and a knife to boot. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a picture for the convience of anyone who can direct me.

HOLY CRAP DUDE!! how on earth did you manage that?! get in touch with the spyderco warranty department they are brilliant with this kinda thing, they might send you a replacement, can't hurt to try. if you didn't do anything amazingly stupid to it which violates the warranty then u should be ok

Hi Joshua,

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

From the looks of the carnage you probably exceeded the warantee terms, but Spyderco may be able to repair it and replace the clip for a fee. They would likely regrind the tip of the blade. It would be worth contacting Mike at Warantee and Repair to find out.

What EXACTLY are the warranty terms? I haven't been able to find any information on that topic.

Disregard the error message after posting a reply. It actually goes thru.

Hi Joshua! Welocme to Spyderland!

I'll second Ruxton's question: How on Earth did you manage to break a Police? Short of a 20# sledge and a vise, I can't figure it out.

Write or call Customer Service and explain exactly what you did that broke it. Unless you were doing something extraordinarily abusive, you have a chance that it could fall under the "manufacturer's defect" clause.

You never know what the Warranty Department will say, so give it a try. I anxiously await the results.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

OK guys here is exactly what happend. step by step and you tell me if you think I broke it or it was a freak thing.

I was working on a new workbench for my garage last night. I got to a point where I had to narrow a piece of plastic down a bit. It was the kind of plastic that is used in milk jugs and such. So me being who I am quickly pulled out my spyde and began to widdle away. At some point I got to a rather rough spot and applied more pressure to the handle and Band the whole thing flew apart. The blade slamed back and pinched my hand causing me to drop the knife. When it hit the concrete floor the damn tip broke off to boot. So in the matter of 10 mins my Police was completley distroyed. How the hell does that happen? BTW I can't get throught to warranty as of yet. I'll keep trying and keep you guys updated. I hope they can help me out. My whole knife is shot? Just a point of curiousity If it comes down to it should I have to pay for this or do you think it is a manufacturing issue?

Now that you've explained what happened the failure of the handle (which led to the damage of the blade) sounds like it might be a manufacturing defect.

Here is the Warantee information:

If we determine that there is a defect in the manufacture or materials we will gladly repair, or replace that product with the same model or one of equal value. If the problem is determined not to be caused by defect in manufacture or materials we will inform you of the cost for repair. Upon agreement and payment we will perform the repair.
