here's "I'm an idiot story" . i found a place that still had some dodo's in stock..so i ordered them, in the meantime i put an offer to trade the LNIB one i have for either a t-mag or a captain...so i get someone to agree to it, he purchases a captain and it gets sent out yesterday...today i get the infamous email that they are out of stock:mad:  ...so i am scramling to find a dodo now as i have agreed to ship out my one and only dodo...i find one that is about $20 more than the price of a captain that i could buy brand new...of course all they have in stock is serrated, i like the plain edge personally. i do all this to try to save a few bucks because this damn :spyder: addiction is costing me too much money...so moral to the story is i should quit trying to speculate on rising prices of hard to find spydies and just buy what i want....i was just wondering if i am the only moron who has done this.

ps...i guess the one good thing that came out of this, albeit an $$ one is that i ordered a black and a blue dodo :p to replace the one i traded..lol

I have learned the hard way Tony, just to buy and keep them.

I have traded off and/or sold many knives that I still wish I had. Now, I only buy knives. I never trade or sell them. I mean, I would sell them if I had to and my family was in dire straits or something but as long as things are fine, I'll keep 'em.

Sell the T-Mag, take the loss, and buy a Dodo just like the one you are just trading. Call it a loss and move on. Also...don't do it again. I have not done exactly what you are doing.....but very similar. ;)

Glad you're not too proud to say you messed up.

Last year I decided that I needed a few extra bucks, so I sold some knives. Now I realize that I could have scraped by just by tightening up my belt a notch or two.

Now I no longer have my Meerkat, Matriarch, Snap-It, Shabaria and Spyderench. Not to mention my Benchmade Ares and Microtech Kestrel. Arrrrrrrrrrgh!

I completely agree with David. Buy what you like and KEEP IT!!

I decided that I would sell my friend my Swick, since I didn't really have much use for it, but after thinking about it, I decided that I really didn't want to sell it (if nothing else, because it's a discontinued GOLDEN Spyder; but also because it fits my hand like a glove).

Luckily, my friend was good-natured and understanding about it.

So, that story had a happy ending.

Start with two million. :p :D

Buy what you like. Money is secondary.

Tony, if that was all I've lost over the decades between knives and guns I'd feel very fortunate. Joe

Never lost any wheeling and dealing, probably only because I don't wheel and deal. OTOH, have given a knife away, then "missed" it and bought another. Come to think of it, there's one model I've done that three times with. :o :D

Lol :D Glad I am not the only one with an "oops what an idiot" story !!! :p

Sold knives to buy other knives...usually at a loss of about 10-50% just to get them moving. Then end up regretting it later only to replace them with then more expensive replacements !

Also, given away knives then replacing them. And yet more.... sold knives when something else was happening at the buying end that didn't eventuate (like your story Tony), then ended up in a losing situation at both ends :(

I'm also impulsive and that doesn't help things. So I am sure I will make more bumbles before I learn enough lessons to keep repeating the mistakes.

Cheers
Dan

i figured i wasnt the only one to step in number 2 when it comes to this...chalk it up as a lesson learned...now i have..or will have shortly 2 dodos both in serrated edge...i am sure i will find somebody on the BF to do an even trade for a plain edge one...so it wasnt a giant loss on my end, at least i have a dodo;).

Remember tony, dont count your chickens before they hatch. Or, in this case, don't count your knives before they ship :D

I cant recall ever trading knives, but I do miss my Lum tanto FB and Shabaria. No regrets though.
