View Full Version : Cost of shipping to Czech Republic
Hello to all of you,
I´m interested in the thing, how are the orders delivered to my country (Czech Republic,Europe) and by which currency will I pay for it ?
On Spyderco's web is no infomation about shipping and their costs. So,I have asked via e-mail at customer service, from there came an answer:
Sorry I do not work with sales and I am not sure of their shipping procedures. I will forward your e-mail to them and they should reply with an answer for you.
But no answer has come.
Will somebody help me whit my questions, please?
Thank you
Zdenek

Why not to use the service of one of the local dealers?

Don't know what the cost would be, but I know Spyderco uses UPS and I believe payment would have to be in US dollars.

I would suggest you look at a reliable dealer who uses the United States Postal Service to ship internationally.
This comment is not meant as an affront to Spyderco - it's simply that in some European countries
UPS has a record for being sluggish *and* expensive too.
Odds are pretty high that UPS will charge you an exorbitant brokerage fee.
This forum must have at least one other member in the Czech Republic, one who has experience importing knives from the U.S. It's probably best to wait for their input.
Why not to use the service of one of the local dealers?
Because they have quiet higher prices than at Spyderco webshop. Therefor I'm looking for the price of the ups service. I also can not imagine paying to czech mailman by US dollars for my ordered deliver :) .
Are you from Czech Republic,Zdenek? Your name sounds czech. If you are from my country, which one of dealers do you use for ordering your knives?
Thanks

Plus, to most countries, the only service which can be tracked is Express Mail, which itself is fairly expensive. Spyderco, and a lot of US dealers, use UPS for international shipments because shipments can be tracked, and claims are handled in a reasonably prompt manner. Establishing proof that an insured Priority Mail package has been lost once it's out of US hands, is virtually impossible.
Zdenek's suggestion, buying locally, is probably the best solution.

Yes I am from CR.
I have not experience with webshops. I suppose that you have to pay not only the price of goods and postage and handling but also customs and VAT if you buy outside EU. Therefore I think the price for a Spyder bought this way will be not so favourable as it may appear.
I buy my knives in this country and pay in CR currency. :) The best prices you can find on knife exibitions. Go to www.noze-nuz.cz.
Good hunting.

Go to www.noze-nuz.com and ask them to order whatever you want. Great prices and great service, too.

Plus, expect to having to pay all sorts of taxes when you purchase directly from the Spyderco webshop. Have you considered EU webshops that sell spydies? They are cheaper than brick and mortar stores and can be very reliable.

Thanks to all concerned! I think I'll stay shopping in our country. Probably it takes less amount of money and also less worries whit customs charges etc.
Zdenek, which exibitions do have on your mind? Never heard about them. Where can I get some more informations?
Thanks to all again.

FedEx and UPS charge almost $100 for shipping.
I've had good experience with USPS First class international. Around $10 for a folder. Uninsured though.
USPS Global Express is insured and trackable, but it's also $30+.
Customs duty - well, there is no final word on this topic. According to law anything over EUR22 coming into Union is subject to custom duty and VAT. How much is that duty depends on what the customs officer had for breakfast I guess. All charges are calculated from value of the shipment + shipping costs.
As for in what currency you pay - in USD for shipping and goods (however if you pay with a debit or credit card it's automatically converted), in CZK for VAT and customs duties (usually at your local post office).
Hi DrU2,

Sorry you didn't receive a response. I would try to email again (customerservice@spyderco.com).
