Hey guys, other than blade steel(ATS-34 and VG-10) and a compression lock versus the lockback, are there any more differences between these two knives? Thanks guys!

Patience, Grasshopper! I'm sure someone who is familiar with both will pop up soon. And no, it's not a dumb question.

I've got a Vesuvius, and I got mine just for compression lock. Man that thing is slick as a whistle. I just can't figure out why they made these knives so similar though? I would also like to appologize for my whining once again. I just can't get that patience thing down. I'll try to do better guys!

I wish i had a Vesuvius, so i could admire that cool blue paua shell  but i'm real content with the Centofante3...i've bought maybe 2-3 over that last 2 years and all had consistent lockups w/zero bladeplay....a lotta knife for the $ imho ...

The first of all, I am not an experts, this is something I found in catalogs, Thanks to Ted.
http://www.spydie.nl/catalogs/
Vesuvius was introduced in 2001 Catalog Black G10 with spider and Black G10 with inlay. PE and CE versions. In 2002 Black FRN with spider and FRN with Blue inlay, also PE and CE. Also known burgundy Forum Vesuvius. All compression lock, ATS 34, made in Golden (per catalogs).
Cento3 was introduced in 2004 as an improved version of Vesuvius.

I don't have the one with the blue inlay, mines just the plain jane, solid black handle. I love the compression lock, I just wished that it had a VG-10 blade instead of the ole' ATS-34. Thanks for the info guys, keep up the good work.

Another difference:
C66 Centofante Vesuvius = blade thickness of 2,5mm
C66BK3 Frank Centofante 3 = blade thickness of 2 mm

Also, the Vesuvius is screwed construction, while the Centofante is pinned. When closed, the opening hole on the Vesuvius is lower than that of the Centofante.

Bringing this one back. I just found a brick and mortar store that had a few of the shell inlay ce vesuvius on sale for 65. I had to buy two so I wouldn't feel bad using one. They also had some of the red and blue box spydies. I need more funds next time I visit. I really like this knife. I wish spyderco would make it in golden again with the comp lock. The blade shape is nice and the shell inlay adds a really nice touch to it. I guess with the 3 basically taking the form it wouldn't happen but I wish it would. I don't find the swedge grind to be the same on the 3 as it is on the vesuvius. Wish I had gotten in the spyderco game earlier.

I don't know what's funnier the 3 year revival or the second post freak-out. :)
