View Full Version : Stretch II Availability - Second Batch?

I thought the Stretch II would be regular production, so was in no rush to get one...then I read somewhere that it was limited production (1000?).
I've checked around and the Stretch II seems to be sold out everywhere. Then I read a thread where it was reported that Sal was working on a second batch of them.
So, since I missed the first Stretch II offering, any ideas when I might be able to obtain one?

Hi Bolster ! I am waiting for the 2nd run , Sal / Deacon made a comment that there was to to a mod to jimping at top were thumb rests that is more to my liking .
Hi Bolster,
They are limited in the number that we can make per month. Not in the total amount. Currently the demand is greater than we can make so they will be backordered for a while. They are out there and there are more going out in a couple of weeks.

Wow, I'm glad I asked. Looks like my information was flawed in a number of different ways. So there is currently no limited number being planned, it's merely a supply/demand issue, that's cool. Just get my order in and wait.
MG2: Is the jimping issue the same as it was on the Manix (where they went from "barbed" jimping to "ruled" jimping...I'm making those terms up)?
Hi Anthony,
I use them, I study them, customers use them, customers make comments, we improve them, and then we improve them...
I can't say at this time what will change, but you KNOW something can be improved. The Stretch2, (like many of our models) is a "work-in-progress", like life;)

whats going to change?Sal commented at one point that the next run of them, which may very well not mean the next batch, as those may still be part of the first run, would have jimping on the ramp to match that on the choil.

Seems I recollect that you prefer the lined jimping, as do I, and the Stretch II at this point has barbed jimping. I can't quite envision what barbed jimping on the choil would look or feel like.
Or do you mean, that the next iteration of S2 would have some sort of jimping on the choil as opposed to none?

Oh yeah, I meant to say "Thanks!" to Anthony for finding me the last Stretch II at NGK. I nabbed it. Thanks man.

Or do you mean, that the next iteration of S2 would have some sort of jimping on the choil as opposed to none?I mean that both the thumb ramp and choil of future runs of the Stretch II would carry the same type of fine-toothed jimping now found on choil of both the original Stretch and the first run of the Stretch II. If you have neither, this is the same general style of jimping used on the ramps of the FRN D4, FRN E4 and Saver Salt, and on both the ramps and choils of the C14 Rescue, Atalantic Salt, and Caly 3, among others.
And, for those poor :spyder: deprived souls who have "none of the above", that's to say the jimping will look like this...

...rather than like this...

Tried searching here, couldn't find the post by Sal I was referring to. Might be here, but I just missed it. Might have been on the other Spyderco forum where the search function was worthless even before they restricted it. Then again, might just be something I dreamed on a "good" night. ;) :D

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation and the (what looks to be lignum vitae) eye candy.
