My first spydie arived!

Yep, just 2 days ago the Calypso Jr. FRN PE found a new, happy home in my right, front pocket. I love it... but I have a couple questions



1. if I practise sharpening it over and over, will it signifigantly wear away the blade, and ruin the shape?



2. it has about 3 mm of side to side play when it's folded up, is that alright?



3. will WD-40 eat away at the FRN if I use it as a lubrication?



4. I can now get my knife out of my pocket, open, closed, and back in my pocket with one hand (and a baggy shirt to hassle with), in about 5 seconds at best... how does this compare with the rest of you?

1. Don't practice sharpening it. You will mess up the profile, especially if you are inexperienced at sharpening. My advice on that would be get a 204 sharpmaker and sharpen all of the kitchen knives until you can shave with them.
2. It is okay as long as it does not have much if any blade play in any direction when locked in the open position.
3. FRN is pretty much impervious to most chemicals. WD40 however is one of the worst things you can use to lube you knives. Buy some tufglide or white lightening. Also try gun oil. Use mineral oil or rubbing alchohol to clean you blade.
4. i can do it with a spydie drop then unlock and close and reclip in about 3-4 sec. Sal is supposed to be really fast with his military. He said if you want to be fast practice often and in front of a mirror.

Use Tuff Oil, or Rem Oil (gun lube). Nix the WD. Don't cut yourself QuickDraw ;-)

Forgive me...I'm new. But what is a Spydie drop?

aaah the legendary spydie-drop, i think its where you grap it between the tips of your index finger and thumb thru the hole then pull it up and out by the hole (dragging the blade open) as its leaving your pocket then swing it down and clutch the handle with the restr of your hand when its just left the pocket. hard to explain but easy enough to do, wouldn't reccomend it with a calypso jr tho, works better with stainless steel ones.

MiniMarc- 5 seconds isn't bad for the full cycle. The fastest I've ever cycled a knife is about 3 seconds with a Kershaw Liner Action.

If you are inexperienced at sharpening, go to a hardware store, buy a few junk knives. Practice sharpening those until you can achieve a good edge without damaging the profile. Once you have acquired this skill, then you can try your Calypso.

Never lube a knife with WD-40, or any spray lubricant. Aside from the fact that WD-40 gums up, spray lubricants apply far more oil than needed, gumming things up. Invest in a bottle of good oil.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

My Mom is afraid of her kitchen knives now that I have sharpened them on the 204.
