Hey All, UPS just dropped off the "CATBYRD" . What a "CHUNK" of Steel!!! This is built for the WORK environment. Like all :spyder: products ...ROCK SOLID!!! Super Sharp out of the box, Smooth Opening (phosphorous bronze washers), SOLID Lock-Up, Comfortable in-hand. It's grippy thanks to the grip tape on the handle and the "jimping" on the ramp of the blade and choil.

The clothing clip ......clips in the front pocket and stays put. I've noticed on some of the ss models, they slide really easy, almost to the point where the knife may slide out of the pocket. Not with this model ......it clips in tight.

I said a chunk of steel, but it's definately a lot lighter in hand than it would appear. It's also nice and thin.

The only thing I'm not real fond of, is you really have to have the thumb strength to close it. Again, the frame lock is solid, but it's tough to push that frame lock over to close it :o . Definately a Keeper Though!!!

Here's a few pix ......again, I'm not a photographer and they're a little fuzzy......Sorry :o . Thought I'd share. Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Thanks for the review raven, speaking of which, how does it compare to a raven? To me they look rather similar, and I'm sure I'll probably buy one, but I am a fan of that raven.

Nice pics, btw

I agree they do look alot alike. Someday HMMM ...... I'll just have to get one too. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

Whoops, my mistake then, I thought I read somewhere that you had one...

But those pictures are good not because they are really pretty, but because they give a great representation of how it fits in your hand.

It sure looks like a beauty of a knife though :D

hey raven, congrats and thanks for the review/pix of the Catbyrd....it looks like a really beefy framelock that can handle some serious work, maybe even some abuse ...
I've got the feeling that the framelock on the Catbyrd (which I haven't bought yet) will be much more "heavy duty" than the linerlock of the byrd Raven (which i do have).... especially if it's tough for you to disengage it ;)
but like the Volpe, I'd rather it be more difficult to unlock than to have it disengage at "the wrong time"....take good care... :)

Hi Raven - nice report on the Catbyrd! I loved that knife from the first proto I looked at over a year ago. Yes, it certainly is " Heavy Duty" all over!

When you are thinking of a Byrd Raven model, give the new-soon to be released- G-10 Ravens some thought! The G-10 Raven and Crow might be just what you' re looking for.

Hey Jurphaas, I was thinking just that, A G-10 Raven along with a G-10 Crossbill  . I love the way the Flight feels in hand with it's G-10 scales, very comfortable and a sturdy. Thanks for looking. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

raven,

Thanks man. Good stuff. I've not kept up on the Byrd knife stuff but it's now starting to catch my eye. I can't believe that they now have a Byrd with a frame lock and a full flat grind. That knife actually looks real nice. I may have to make this my first Byrd knife to see how it is. Also, it seems that the 8Cr13MoV blade steel seems like a great workhorse steel. To me it's better than AUS-8. I'm going by my past experience with the BM Vex.

Thanks for the pics and review. By the way, your pics are fine. They get the job done and that's what matters. ;)

Nice tatt by the way.

Hey David, I'm really liking the catbyrd  . Definately a "Workhorse" and built to take some abuse. The blade steel is very close to AUS-8, but the 8Cr13MoV seems to take a bit of a better edge and very easy. The frame-lock is "STOUT"... No accidental closing with this knife. Like I mentioned in my first post, it's just a bit difficult to close. Hey, I can get used to it. If you have a chance to pick one up, you won't be disappointed.

I've attached a few pics of my tats ...there from a thread a while back. BTW, Ignore the knife in the pix :o . Take Good Care and Be Safe Always. Thanks for looking ;) .

God Bless :)
