ATR

The best $70 bucks you can spend

Wicked Serrations
Great as an Impact device
Very slim profile
Smooth as butter
Strong locking mechanism
Discontinued

This is a lot of knife for the money

take care

I paid total $75 for mine from my dealer. There is a PE version listed on bladeforums for $70 shipped.

3.Spyderco ATR Silver PE: Very good condition, only cut paper but has been sharpened on the sharpmaker and the clip seems to be bent outward just a little: $70 shipped

If you are serious I can ask my dealer how much he charges for shipping and give you a total price tomorrow.

take care
aj

I'm going to throw my $0.02 for the Chinook 3. It's a fantastic knife IMO, even though I don't own nor have handled either of the other two. The Captain is intriguing, but looks like it would be a real pain in the arse to sharpen and the ATR is all steel construction, which I'm just not a huge fan of. My fave handle material is G-10. My thoughts on, and some pics of the Chinook in this thread...

Have fun with your decision and I truly don't think you can go wrong with any of them.:D

If collecting is your thing, the ATR may be the best choice as it's out of production a while, whilst the other two are still in large supply.

If you want the more collectible version, go for the Titanium one. :)

The Chinook 3 *is* a nice knife though.

Chinook 3 is the nice knife, but IMHO now is a good time to buy SS ATR.
It was discontinued last year, but still available. If you look at e-bay you should be able to get it. I saw SE sold under $70, PE may be $85. Black coated SE are more expensive and black coated PE are rare and more expensive.
Chinook 3 you will be able to get for the same price as long as it produces and this is a fairly new model.

I agree with BH49. You indicated that you are looking for the knife to expand your collection. For the reasons mentioned above, ATR is you best bet.
If you were looking for the best knife, it’s just a matter of taste. It would be Chinook for me.

for a user, if you dont mind a SS handled knife, i'd say get an ATR with the serrated blade. if you are just going to be storing it a black version with a plain edge will probably be more valueable down the line. (for some reason plain edges usually get more $$$) of cousre a titanium one will be worth alot more but you will pay more to get one too.

I would say the SE ATR, there isn't much this thing won't do and its quite comfy in the hand. Great Knife

Get them all!:p

Seriously, although my favorite user is the Chinook 3 (of the knives listed), I think the ATR might be the best knife to 'round out your collection'. It's one of Sal's personal designs and was a -IMO successfull- attempt to design a knife with minimal parts. The Glock series of pistols was an inspiration for the ATR design.

I'm voting for the Chinook3 as well ;)
they are actually all very different ... all 3 were "necessary" for me to purchase ... at true sign of the "sickness" :p

:spyder: :spyder:  :spyder: :spyder: I would have to say the ATR as well, simpley because it is discontinued, and a true testament to what Spyderco is all about, and making it a must have for those who don't:cool: Then you can focus on the Chinook3. I have both the SS, and TI Atr's(2TI/1SS), and also have the Chinook3...Uh; KICK@$$

ATR if it was me. Super strong all around. Very smooth opener. Heavy duty user, and just looks cool
