I recieved a second chance offer on a NIB SE left hand G-10 Police. My bid was $111 so I can get it for that plus shipping. Is this a great deal or just a good deal? I am not sure if I should jump on it or let it slide. I wish it was the right hand version as I am a righty.

Here is the e-bay auction with the knife.

It was a fake second chance offer. I urge anyone who gets a second chance offer to check with the seller before sending any money.

Just send the seller an e-mail via E-bay not through the bogus second chance offer of course.

Anyway, one more reason to hate E-gay. In addition to the fact that E-bay and Paypal are run by anti gun and knife nut jobs in San Fran, they steal money all the time. I HATE E-bay! When will someone knock them off their thrown? I thought this was America and we had some competition. Guess not.

You just have to be careful with who you deal with. It isnt eBay, its shady sellers out to get a quick buck. There are many awesome, honest sellers out there that offer things that you cant get any where else!!!!

Here is an example of some scores I have had recently
1. $30 shipped buy it now on a barely used G10 harpy
2. $60 shipped NIB red bone kiwi
3. $65 shipped NIB Plain Black Native
4. $55 barely used Plain Mariner

Until I can find another place that offers super hard to find knives for sometimes under dealer cost, Ill stick with the bay.

I much prefer my local canadian gun forum and BF. Got a SS serrated police off of BF from a fellow canuk for an excellent price. I have wanted one of those since they came out.

WTB ads actually can work.

You obviously thought it was worth that when you bid on it. What's changed?

I'll bite...perhaps it was the impulsiveness we occasionally experience when we get involved in auction-style purchasing. It is this same impulsiveness that gets some us in trouble, not only with a legitimate ebay transaction, but the follow-up offers by unscrupulous vultures.

All that being said, $111.00 would have been a good price.

Speaking of impulses, I thank you Deacon for getting me hooked on the Kiwi. Everytime I see a "purdy" one, I get this terrible impulse to buy it.

Over the years I've received about a dozen of them. Most I was happy to get and purchased the item. The rest were cases where I'd already snagged another specimen of the knife by the time the offer was tendered. But even those I'm sure were legit, since they came through eBay, and linked to auctions I had bid on. On the other hand, have received a few "fake" ones, but those were on things I'd never bid on.

Actually, I was continuing the thought process based on the fact that his offer turned out to be bogus. I've been pleasantly suprised a couple of times when a (legitimate) second chance offer came to me. Made the experience that much sweeter.

Keep up the good work Deacon.

Being careful with the second chance offers is prudent.

Have purchased an item or two through second chance offers in the past without knowledge of the fact that jackals send out fake ones.

Then got a second chance offer on an item that I had purchased myself and realized that a thief was trying to steal the price of that item with a second chance offer. High dollar amount too. Since the item had been purchased by me there was no question that the second chance offer was a fake. Seller was a city municipality and I let 'em know that a scammer was trying to steal from people using their name. Hopefully they were able to find the thief and prosecute.

Any offers received in the future will be checked out thoroughly before making any move.

Deacon,

Be very wary of second chance offers. A very high percentage of them now are frauds. Checking with the original seller is a very good and prudent precaution. I sometimes have to deal with eBay and similar corporate entities for work reasons and have access to some interesting statistics on the second chance phenomenon. What has happened is that scam artists saw an opportunity and went for it, and have now made the "second chance" a very chancy situation indeed.

If you get a second chance offer emailed to you, you should have the same second chance offer in our eBay mailbox. If not, it's bogus. Plus, second chance offers never have email links in them. Understand how eBay works, you'll weed out the bogus offers.
