Anyone own this knife? I'm not really a FB guy, but this knife looks like a winner - full tang wharnie blade, G-10 scales, multi-position sheath...http://www.crkt.com/dragon.html

What do y'all think?

The Knife is a bit rough on the hands, due to handle material and construction...and even know it's a pretty big wharnie it just doesn't cut and slice like smaller ones ie. the Yojimbo or Ronin. Though nice to look at...I'd pass on this one...It looks good but IMHO can't deliver the goods. When it comes to Wharnies it's all about blade geometry...and this knife just doesn't have what it takes....Doc:D

Thanks Doc! I really like my little Wharcom and Yojimbo, so the basic blade shape and G-10 handles on the Dragon intrigued me, but it sounds like maybe not such a functional package after all.

Although I don't have the MBC expertise that the Doc does (heck, I don't have any  ), I would like to give my opinion:

The Dragon is a fairly good gateway knife; full tang construction, decent steel, G-10 scales (although, admittedly, very rough). It combines a lot of good idea into one package; but unfortunately, the ideas don't quite come together as well as they could. It's not a bad knife by any means, it just doesn't seem to work too well for most situations. It's too specialized for most regular use, and it doesn't seem specialized enough (in my limited knowledge...) to be a true MBC knife (for one thing, it seems to have a quite thick blade which hinders slashing).

In the end, though, I feel that the thing that brings the Dragon down the most is the fact that it feels like a tool. It doesn't melt into your hand the way a good knife should; it constantly remind you that it's there, and as such, can be uncomfortable to wield.

The Dragon is, I feel, a collection of wonderful ideas that fail to perform in their package. :(
