I love the giraffe bone, but it's way outside my price range. I keep eyeing the jigged bone Kopa though.

I know i'm being really picky here, but the price list says "Flavor shell". Perhaps it's a typo, but i thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for the eye candy Catamount :D

Much appreciated, and obviously more to add to my Kopa Kabana. I seriously need to update that thread. Honey Jigged Bone on its way, so hopefully some new pics to add to the Kabana later this week. These others look interesting.

The Abalone & White Pearl is a great counterpoint to the last released Pearl & Abalone (sort of a negative or reverse in the inlays), Giraffe Bone looks to be old school classic and Pacific Blue Bone will be an interesting one to gauge as it won't be everyone's cuppa tea. I like the pinned scales though :p very nice. Stacked Wood one will be very interesting. I think if it is like the SFSW rainbow coloured version then once again it'll polarise people's opinions.

Cheers
Dan

it's interesting seeing how Scale materials parallel b/w Spyderco and some of Fallkniven's offerings .... like when the Black Quince Kopa emerged the Black and Red Quince TK3's emerged.....their newest U1 slipjoints have "Ocean Blue Bone" as seen here: http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=10504
Could this mean that the Japanese manufacturer who builds the folders for Fallkniven are the same ones who build Spyderco's Kopas
I do own a couple Fallkniven folders: zytel TK3, cocobolo U1 and the build quality is "on par" with the Kopas.....maybe it's just a strange coiincidence :)

The giraffe bone is very attractive. I might have to find a couple Kiwi size pieces of that one of these days. :D Do like the fact they've gone back to pinned scales on the the jigged, giraffe, and blue bone ones. Pinned scales just seem more appropriate than glued with traditional materials like bone and wood. Still, looks like all will just be display pieces for me, since I have a hunch they all have clips.

Brian, you may very well be correct, since most, if not all, of the Japanese makers build knives for more than one company.

Thanks for the insight Paul....whichever company/factory that is in Japan, they are pretty much the best F&F of my collection of SekiCity-made Clipits...the Fallkniven Cocobolo U1 slipjoint I bought has the same "lovely" build quality as my Kopas/Kiwis.... I noticed that "the other company" has P1 folders with the blue/yellow bone offerings.... the build quality of the Volpe is imo on the same "tier" as that of the Kopas....
coffeetable trivia: I wonder which bone is denser(specific gravity), the giraffe bone or the Brontosaurus bone offered on the SFSW Kiwi:confused:

I really would love to have at least one clipless Kopa. I have no problem to carry Kopa clipped when I am wearing jeans or dockers, but with black or dark gray pants stainless steel clip doesn't look right, and I carry it loose in the pocket so clip just cover beautiful handle.

As for the other, if I were to hazard a guess, I'd pick Moki, the outfit that did both the Spyderco C27 and Beretta Jess Horn collaborations, as the maker of the Kopa and the Kiwi as well.

It's pretty easy to find someone who can fill those so as to make them invisible. I find clips, even the one on the C27 Horn, which is a work of art compared with those on any other Spyderco, to be unattractive. So I find it frustrating that the Kopa makes me choose between having an ugly clip which I never use staring me in the face every time I hold the knife, or having an even uglier gouge defacing an otherwise handsome little folder.

I don't have an ugly KOPA. And the new one's look very nice. I only find myself carrying them to Church or funerals... Need to try more every day carry with these, they are just wasting away in the "queen" drawer. Pity.

Hey JSpyEDC,

Pity them not :D . I've been watching your site and often try to make them a new home here in Sydney ;) Send them over to me and I'll bring em o church and to school and office for you :D

Cheers
Dan

BTW: Just picked up a delviery from the Post Office. Honey Jigged Bone Kopa is a classic. Not as ostentatious as some of the stone/ shell ones. But still very nice. Classically beautiful. Though the bolsters on this one loks a bit different to the others I have. Will check them out later and see if my initial impressions are true.

The giraffe bone I've seen on other brands has quite a bit of color in it...reds, blues, greens... Was that color artificial? Is natural giraffe bone just brown like the photos above?

This one is less 'bells and whistles' or 'blingy' as some of the others like the Pearl and Abalone release previously, nor the Turquoise one. This is more low key and more old-timer folder. I like it. Understated yet beautiful.

DanDang, thats pretty. If Steve won't rework another Kopa for me, I'll have to find someone else who will. That Honey Jigged Bone just screams for pocket time.

Hey Paul,

As soon as I opened up the package this morning I thought of you. I immediately flipped it over to look at the reverse/ clip side and tried very hard to imagine it without the clip. I must say the honey part of the honey jigged bone is quite caramel like in colour. Some like i a bit lighter in colur....closer to bone colour, this is a warmer tone of jigged bone.

For this classic scales on a gentlemans knife I would agree that a clipless Jigged Bone Kopa might look a bit better. Also being the most 'tactile' Kopa to date I think the fondle factor is defintely there and the clip gets in the way of fondling both scales for sure.

I'm tempted to get another Jiggy Bone an rip the clip off for serious pocket time. Not sure why until I wrote the above paragraph. I think it is the jigging that makes you want to caress it even more. The other Kopas are very very nice, but this one has that extra touch of texture that just makes you want to feel it up a bit more. The others (in terms of feel) are smooth and finished very tightly. This, as I previously mentioned, seems a tad more old school.

Enough of me taking this off topic. This Kopa release was actually announced last year. Finally it has hit the market. I think some might think this to be a bit too 'old school' . I think it is quite nice :)

Can't wait to hear from Sal about his proposal on the clipless dentless Kopa. I'm hoping it'll be something for the masses in some ways, and in others the jealous part of me wants to keep the Kopa a hidden treasure

Cheers big ears
Dan
