Several threads about the brand spanking new fulll-flat-grind, foliage green G-10 Delica have referred to the knife as the "D5" (fifth-generation Delica). I don't disagree with that designation since the blade grind is a radical departure from the standard D4, but is Spyderco calling this model the D5 or just the collectors? Could it simply be a variation of the D4?

Seems like I remember reading in an earlier thread that it was still going to be designated the D4, but I could be wrong. I'll post the link if I come across it.

hey you know us, trying to label things before it's official...

FFG chinook became chinook 3
CF stretch is labelled stretch II
so FFG delica becomes delica 5
etc...

:)

so FFG delica becomes delica 5

I gotta say that I very much like the idea, but will "the Company" run with it?

No, they won't. UNLESS they quit production of the FRN due to the intro FRN Delica being to expensive compared to Byrds and other knives.

for now i believe they're just limited production so they'll stay FFG D4 and FFG E4...

OK, confession time guys :o . When I first got wind of this I believe it was me that decided to coin the D5 and E5 thing for the FG FFG D4 and E4.

Officially I believe that it is D4 and E4.

However, the Danielism's came out and unfortunately I managed to confuse a lot of people by calling it the E5/ D5 . My comments and coining of the E5/D5 were purely tongue in cheek. But to me the differences were plenty to differentiate it from the FRN D4/E4 iteration that it may have warranted a new version number :D

Sorry if I confused anyone :)

Cheers
Dan
