ETA for the Rock Lobster is August/September.

You can see the customs made by Jens Anso here:

http://ansoknives.net/custom_folders_rocklobster.htm

First pics of the :spyder: version will most likely be posted here after the Amsterdam meet on March 8th.

We do have protos. Yes, they are "righty" only, sorry.:( .

I'm sure thee will be some photos from the "meets" (Leeds, Amsterdam, Solingen).

Production is limited, but they should be out this summer. Seems like it's been years in process ;)

Beautiful design by Jens and beautifully made to his specs.

Hey Sal, when and where might they be availble from. Also, how much will they cost? Is there any way to pre-order some?

I have a huge fan of Jens work, and cant wait for this to see this design as done by Spyderco. I have my own Anso on order and it will be great to get the Spyderco at the same time.

I am so excited about just seeing the proto pictures that I just dont even know what to do.

Here's a question:

Will the Spyderco version have textured handle scales like on Jens Anso's custom knives?

That was going to be my question as that texturing is a halmart of his work.

I would bet that there will be no texturing, just standard G10. The Anso texture is a handmade texture that is a bit time consuming. I'm sure Spyderco could find a way to machine it, however I feel it would be quite expensive to set up. I would be impressed if they found a way however.

It a design collaboration, not a "lets copy exactly what Jens does, just mass manufactory it" So I wouldn’t expect any of the finer points that make Jens Anso knives custom. They're always other craftsmen about that can do that sort of texture after market...:)...

I bet it will be smaller as well. Kind of a Mini Rock lobster. The Anso Rocklobster has a 4.5 inch blade, which is quite large for the standard user. I would bet the Spyderco Rocklobster will be a little more compact.

I'm confused here. The Rock Lobster in the Anso website is a folder. The Spyderco listing says fixed blade. Is there something wrong with the listing or is it in fact a fixed blade? Joe

Where are you getting that from?

As well it seems rather odd that Sal would refer to it as Right handed if it were a fixed.

Tricod asked:

Tricod, It's in the fixed blade section of the 2008 retail price guide that came with my catalog. #FB20PBK It's listed with FRN, as a PE with retail MSRP of 379.95.

I have no way of knowing if it's correct or a misprint, but check your listing if you have one. Joe

It's a typo, they mistakenly listed the Ed Schempp Rock Salt as the "Rock Lobster".

Exactly. Making something very close to the one available from the man himself would cut down on demand for that particular model.

Oh demand for the Spyderco version will be high, Jens dropped the Rock Lobster from his line.

The FB20 is the Rock Salt by Ed Schemp. Its correct on the online catalog. I'll have to check my printed one when I get home. You had me all worried there for a sec.

That was going to be my question as that texturing is a halmart of his work.

At the SHOT Show last week, the Lobster I fondled was a foliage green G-10 handle, the same Seki-look & feel as the new Endura/Delica G-10.

Out of curiousity: Is it righty only because that's how Jens Anso wanted it?

What we have seen must if not all collaberations are for the most part a righty . Something we live ( leftys ) with and schucks , darn it that is the way it goes . MG2

Walker linerlocks as well as Reeve integral locks are easier to unlock from one side. Making a lefty friendly model would require a reverse or mirror version. This means additional tooling and entire left handed runs.

Since the Rock Lobster is a limited production model anyway, it is very impractical to try to make a left handed version, at least at this time.

@ Blackhair: IIRC the carbon fiber Delica Sprintrun was 1200 x right handed and 300 x left handed (in PE/SE - 50:50) ;)
