Last may I purchased a white German Shepherd Dog puppy and it's been a very busy time since then. We've had our ups and downs, especially between6-9 months old, but now she's doing very well. She'll be a year old on St. Patrick's Day next month and I thought I'd share a picture.

She is still very much a puppy and sometimes it's hard to remember that given her stature. It's been a lot of time and effort as well as some professional help in training her, but she really is turning into a great dog and is very affectionate with the family. Currently the only real difficulty has been getting her to accept some visitors. Some people she absolutely loves at first sight while others she just doesn't seem to like. It's been a lot of treats and play, but for the most part she warms up to them. She has been absolutely great with other dogs, especially small ones which she tends to protect if other larger dogs pick on them. It's very unfortunate that so many other people in our neighborhood/development haven't socialized their dogs very much. I'm eagerly awaiting the dog park opening up in town in May as well. Now that the weather is improving I think I may sit out in the front yard for a while on the weekends with her and practice introducing her to more and more people as well.

Hi Aero_Student
Nice looking dog you have there. Glad to hear you are doing all the training and such. We had some of the problems you are experiencing with our newfoundland puppy so we started taking him to crowded strip malls and walking him up and down them so he would get lots of attention from lots of people and we alwasy brought lots of cookies to give to people to give to him. It really helped alot for sure.

We just recently got a dog park and the bummer is all those people that don't socialize there dogs take them to the park now and let them be just as a nuisance only now they are off leash. So we dont go to often.

Aero-student - Glad the dog training is going well. Socializing any dog is very important, it's a shame so many good dogs are put down every year because the owners do not know how to teach them to work in "people-world". Also have you checked out the "show your dog" thread?

Tank - that's why we don't go to our local dog parks, not to mention it seems that almost no one pick's up after their dog:(
