I wrote this review of sorts on another forum I frequent and felt it deserved a place here. :)

I got my Boker MType, G10 Byrd Flight, and Spyderco Poliwog.
The MType is a BEASTLY knife. I love it. Big knife, but rides so nice the the pocket. Deep and thin. The clip rides the knife low and the TiNi finish keeps it off radars so to speak. The blade and handle are finished off nicely and look down right mean. I love it. Lockup is deadbolt strong with zero play on the blade. Well worth the 50ish bucks. I MIGHT pick up the black bladed combo edge sooner or later. I HATE CE but I like this knife that much. The blade came a less sharp than I like but I have high expectations. I ran it on my sticks and its all good shave sharp. I would LOVE to see this model with a SV30 or better blade. I would pay a great deal for that aswell.

The G10 Flight is one HELL of a knife for under 30 bucks. This is a SERIOUSLY underrated knife. The steel is pretty damn sharp to my surprise. The ergonomics are well layed out and the finish is, considering the cost, superb.
File work of the spacer is a pretty damn nice touch even though it might be a lint magnet. The action on the blade is a little tight for my liking but nothing I cant remedy with the torx. The G10 is grippy as ever but not quite up to finish of my Para Military. Then again, I wouldn't expect it to be for the price its going for. The "Comet" hole is more than comfy to use and feels right at home. Though I would rather see a standard round hole. I feel this knife could transition WELL over to is father brand, Spyderco, with little work to it.

Now the Poliwog. Wow. This little gem is quite a hand magnet. I ordered it for my brother and is getting shipped off to Balad Airbase Iraq in a care package in a few days. This little knife just begs to be held. It may be ugly as sin but it melts into your hand and feels like a natural extension, as most Spydercos do. I love it. SMOOTH action just like my other ball lock, the D'Allara. Professional finish and shave sharp blade. For being all stainless, you would imagine that it might be slick. But the grip on this thing is vice tight in the hand due to the choils and cut outs. Its a pricey knife at JUST a smidge under 100 bucks but its seems to be a nice piece of hardware. Lock up is bank vault like my D'Allara but unlike it, the Poliwogs ball lock is open ended. It looks like the ball might pop out but its actually locked it between the blade tang and the body do the handle. Its quite a piece to look at. Spring wire clip is VERY strong and rides it nice in the pocket. (I had to bust this thing out and finger it before I send it off) For such a small knife, I feel more than confident it can handle ANYTHING thrown at it. Im sure it will find a nice home in my brothers pocket. Now, if they ever put out a TiNi coated version, I might just have to grab one with out a second thought. Who knows, I might pick one of these SS ones sooner or later.

The first time I handled the Polliwog I thought "INDUSTRIAL", very cool little knive, just a bit too heavy for EDC for my current work clothes.
Thank your brother for serving,
Jerry

The Poliwog and the G-10 Flight...

...two knives that I've never handled, but desperately want! :D

I need to learn to stop reading reviews and looking at pictures, they make my wishlist bigger. :p

congrats on your new knives DRod, I enjoyed reading your reviews.
I'm glad that hey lived up to your expectations; often times I buy knives without handling them first and I usually rely on reviews and photos on the forums. My knife purchases increased exponentially after joining the forums.... be forewarned ;) :p
I hope your brother likes the Poliwog, I am grateful that he serves to protect our country and he deserves thanks... :)

Oh yeah. Ive been on here for almost a year or so and Blade forums for while before that. I have ten or so Spydercos. I need to get them all together again in one spot to inventory them. lol.
I think it was your picture of the D'Allara and MType together that pushed me to grab one. Im glad I did, I love it. I love the Flight too and cannot recommend it enough to my buddies that are cheaper than me. They get nervous when I pull one of mine out and start fiddling. They ask to see it and when I give it to them the say, "AHHA now what." Then I pull out another from my other pocket to shut them up. We laugh about it. So yeah, I have a few on hand. Not as much as most here, but enough to make people nervous when the find out how many. lol.
Yeah, my twin brother is deployed to Balad Airbase and says its not actually that bad once you get used to the CRAM buzzing off, the popcorn sound from outside in the distance and the occasional mortar thumping the grass outside your window. Other than that he says it feels alot like home. I know hes just being cynical though. He knows we appreciate his time and effort, we remind him often. :) The Poliwog goes in the mail along with the prerequisite beef jerkey, latest new releases, prepaid debit cards, magazines, bottles of tobasco sauce and clean skivvies. lol.

I think the polliwog is a beautiful design to look at.. in fact the polliwog is what got me interested in spyderco when I saw it in the AG Russel catalog. Yes the polliwog looks to me like a movie prop for a Sci-fi Yakuza in Space Gangster flick or Anime. NICE LOOKS.

Hopefully not too far off topic, but the USPS is discounting a new flat rate Priority Mail box for shipping to APO/FPOs:

http://usps.com/news
Release No. 08-017

Mail to APO/FPO addresses receive $2 discount
Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Boxes shipped to an APO/FPO destination receive a $2 discount, a postal first for the military; either version of the new larger box can receive the discount. The two existing flat-rate boxes (11 7/8 " x 3 5/8" x 13 5/8 " and 11" x 8 ½" x 5 ½"), which currently retail for $8.95 for U.S. addresses, are not eligible for the military discount. Update. Yeah, he got the pollywog and loves it. Said he carries it every day and thought the socks I sent him were a nice touch. I didn't know about the flat rate boxes. :(
It ended up costing about 29 bucks to ship it. It was kind of a heavy box though. But it was there in three days, so I don't think thats too too bad.

I was playing wih my SS Flight the other day. It was the knife that got me hooked on Spydercos. You are right, for under $30 (or whatever I paid for it in Aus $) its an excellent knife.

The Poliwog is also on my list of need to buy!

The two "orginal" flat rate boxes I use to ship to APO/FPO addresses cost$8.95. Usually they are in Iraq/Afgan/OtherStans in 6 to 8 days. I shipped stuff to Iraq on a Friday, the following Wednesday got an email saying it arrived :) Three days is rocket fast though.

Thank your brother for serving
