It is warmer and dryer, right now, during the "February Fake" part of winter in the Willamette Valley part of Oregon. You think winter is over but...

I am not the only one suffering spring delusion:

Waterdog heading off to find romance:

Western Bluebird, photo taken at distance, showing off his colors for the chicks:

Goin north:

Anyone else enjoying February fake in their neck of the woods?

I wish!! I've still got a 5 foot snowbank on each side of my driveway. It's to the point where it's dangerous pulling out into the street cause you can't see what's oncoming. It's snowing again right now:eek:  I can't wait to see some grass again.

yesterday in Dallas it was a wonderful 88 degrees mild wind and sunny. Today the wind is kickin' at 30mph and the temp is about 49 and feels like 42. Supposedly it will stay that way all week. :(

I do wonder if the animals are confused sometimes... 'specially the hibernating type.

mrappraisit, thank you for the kind words. Summer in February boy do you know how to live. Jealous of you. I will check back with you in July when you'll have to put all the candles in the ice box to keep them from melting.

stoneman, it sounds like your weather is punishing. I thought of you when I opened my freezer out in the garage today. Your true summer must be appreciated big time.

snuffaluff, I believe that now is when the weakest animals are at the most risk, just before winter ends. I don't know about the hybernating species but I saw a dead Great Blue Heron a week ago with no signs of assault. The geese in the pic were tired looking (I took the pic from less than 10 ft away). They hardly moved as I walked near them, remaining sitting but not eating, on the grass. Usually honkers will fly off when I'm withing 100 ft of them.

All the best,

oregon

It gets so d_mn hot here in the summer that the ice box trick may not work. Thats what the pool and Gin + tonic's are for;) Stay cool (or warm) oregon

We got plenty of snow yesterday and more is on the way. I'll enjoy your February fake-out from afar. Nice pictures.

Oregon, that's sad man. I know that the duck population in these parts has died down over the last few years. I'm not sure if it's just a change in flight pattern or if it's this crazy weather we've been getting, which seems to get crazier every year. I see squirrels running around in Jan. instead of sleeping all winter. Then they go away for a few weeks and are back again. I can't see how this doesn't affect them in some way.
Wish I could travel up to your neck of the woods again... such beautiful country you live in.

Weather around here has been all over the place. Woke up to single digits Sunday, Monday afternoon it was sunny and 45º and I was riding around with the top down. Last night I had to park at Town Hall and walk up the hill to my place, 4" of snow, slick as frog snot, and the town had not yet gotten around to plowing or sanding.

It is getting to be springtime (late winter) here in the southern Appalachians. I went out to the store yesterday afternoon and it was 62 degrees. By the time I got home three hours later it was 39 degrees and dropping fast. Today's high was around thirty. Tonight is predicted at 18. By this weekend the highs will be back in the mid fifties. The real question is shirtsleeves, jacket or parka?

The migratory birds are used to this and just hunker down for a day or two.

Thank you all for the comments. I really enjoyed the local weather reports. You guys are all right. More fun than I deserve. Shovel some snow for me Deacon and Thom.

These shore birds, shown here about 100 miles east of the big blue Pacific Ocean, make happy sounding cheeping noises in unison as they poke and prod the muck with their long beaks. They could be responding to the fact that the mud isn't frozen just now but the perky sounds are maybe them blowing the bottom gloop out of their noses.

They look round and healthy. Larger in size than the killdeer but smaller than a female mallard. I think, don't quote me, that they are Long-billed Dowitchers.

Howdy bluemist.

I'm originally from berdoo. Moved to Oregon when I was three. Lived in Honolulu for a couple years. Mostly Oregonian and plain old mutt.

Have you had a chance to get out much between the rain showers?
