Hey Paul, Just got off-duty Sir and while on patrol earlier I got to thinking .......What Other Knives (if any) Does The Deacon Collect??? I know the Beloved Spydie Kiwis and other Spydies, but are there any other knives/brands you collect??? Not sure if you've ever been asked before or maybe you have and I just missed it (as usual  ). If so My Apologies :o . I'm just curious??? Take Good Care and Be Safe Always. Guess I go catch some ZZzzzz ;) .

God Bless :)

Hi Raven,

Aside from having at least one of all my buddy Chad's designs, and a handful of Berettas (for reasons which should be obvious to anyone who knows my name), it's pretty much "Spydercos all the way down". :D Naturally, given my age, and the fact that there's been a knife in my back pocket darn near every day since I was seven, I have "a few" others I acquired and carried over the years, but nothing I really collected.

Hey Paul, Thank You for the response. I've always wondered what else you collected. Ya did forget one thing that I've seen in some of your pix .......Those COOL Hawaiian Shirts ;) . BTW, Nothing wrong with those and I like em.

You mentioned age??? Hey, Age is nothing but a Number Sir :p . You might give up a few years, but what you give up in those years .......you gain In Wisdom. Of course that's not true in my neck of the woods/folks I deal with as far as the Wisdom/Smarts part.......Sheeeesh  ???

Anyway, the age thing ......I'm a guy that still scoots around a track on a little bike :D .

Appears we share a Very Good Buddy ;) . Chad's a Great Guy and I also have a lot of his blades. If you contact him, ask him about his recent bike riding experience :p and who got him started again :o :p ??? Take Good Care Paul and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Is it time to update the photo of the flock yet Paul ?

-raven-Well, you'd only asked about knives, so I left out the Hawaiian shirts, tie-dye t-shirts, and liver spots. ;) :D

Give you a LOT of credit on the bike racing Raven, I use to race motorcycles in my younger days, gave that up at about 30 when it had reached the point where I was still hurting on Saturday from Sunday's race.

DanNot quite, see below...

lol, good one Dan, it sure must be a *chore* placing that many knives in a perfect "array" for one photoNot to mention achieving some semblance of symmetry. Right now there are 43 "unique" ones, so can't quite figure out a layout for them. Either that, or it's just a darn good excuse to justify my laziness and/or to challenge SFSW again. :D

LOL :D I actually love the way you do challenge their skills from time to time, AND with you providing them with your own scales at that !

Go for it, what's on the plate next Paul ?

yeah Paul, like where would the "earthling" kiwi fit into the scheme  would it kick the sambar stag one out of the center of the photo  :p

you might need SeanH's Double Take software to give us a panoramic view of your Kiwis :D

I've been wondering something, Deacon:

You've posted in the past that the SS Kiwi is thinner than the production stag handled Kiwi.

when you get your Kiwis customized, do you send a plain SS Kiwi, or did you buy a bulk order of un-fitted production kiwi blanks? :D

It sounds like a stupid question, but I can't figure out how the plain SS handles have enough meat to be gouged out for custom slabs and retain their rigidity.

But, to answer your question, the only all stainless one's I've had customized are the two I had engraved, one by Macus Hunt and the other by Antonio Montejano. All the Kiwis I have had customized by Santa Fe were the bolster and scales version. Santa Fe simply removes the original scales and replaces them with whatever I supply. Sometimes I supply the "donor" knife, sometimes they do.

I don't "buy in bulk" from Spyderco. I presume SFSW does, but I never asked.

I would venture that SFSW is one of the reasons the Kiwi is still in the lineup. They customize quite a few of them and there are a number of dealers who carry them. However, for a brief time a while back, Santa Fe could not get bolster and scales Kiwis from Spyderco, so to "keep busy" they managed to purchase a small number of the SS ones. They ground the handles down a bit to flatten them, since the SS handles are slightly rounded, then applied "full panel" onlays to them. I purchased a couple of those, one in black pearl and one in red coral. They're different, and quite attractive in their own way.
