Hey All, Just thought I'd share this INTERESTING Experience with the "Family"???

Anyway, lastnight we had a TacTeam training session/scenario, bad guy hostages, high power rifle, ...etc. We're at the office going over the scenario and discussing approach, staging area, and what team is doing what (2 five man teams). We get all geared up and I pop the CLB M-Type in my right cargo pocket of my BDU's. Get to the staging area, and the teams are ready to ROCK  . BTW, approach is on the local very tiny airport out in the County. After getting to one of the hangars, we have to sprint across an open field to the main building while the 2nd team is providing simulated cover fire. I bolt across the open field at full sprint. We get set, make entry to the main building/terminal, find bad guy, kill bad guy (simulated :D ), and complete clearing of the area and secure it......Everything flowed as planned ...Kinda

We meet back at the Sheriff's Department to discuss the deployment, approach, and objective. Everyone is getting out of their gear. One of guys asks for a knife and who else provides :p ...I reach into the cargo pock and feel something Very Sharp and Pointy HALF OPENED IN THE CARGO POCKET    !!! I look down at the cargo pocket to see the tip of the blade poking out of the pocket  . WOW!!! Close Call and lucky for me the blade turned outward instead of inward .

Apparently during the exercise, and the jarring from the sprint managed to pop the Blade Open. I guess that constant "Flicking" of the blade loosened it up enough to work it's way open.

LESSONED LEARNED: Keep the blade pivot a little tight while running and Having A Big Blade In the Pocket :p . Time to get another pair of BDUs ...Again ...Sheeeesh!!!

Thanks for listening and again, just thought I'd Share Being Lucky??? Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Glad you're ok, Raven. Were you carrying it tip down or tip up?

Hey Knifebros, I was carrying the CLB PE M-Type and it was in the Tip Up position. The only two things that I can think of, that would cause it to open was the little sprint across the field and the blade being a little to loose??? Had I had to hit the ground on my right side .......Well, it probably would have ended BADLY  . Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless Gents :)

IMO anything that uses a detent (like on a liner lock) to hold the knife closed instead of positive spring action (like on a lockback) should be either tip down or carried tip up with the spine blade against the seam of your pocket. Nearly gored myself on a Boker Trance that way.

That's why I always reply "I prefer tip down carry" when the subject comes up. Been there, done that, have the scars. Glad yours worked out better than mine.

Yikes. Glad that turned out well for you. I have never had anything like that happen to me...so far, anyway.

Whenever I consider the consequences of an accidental blade deploy that close to the family jewels.... http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-040.gif

That's one of the reasons I keep my pivots a little on the tighter side. Glad you're okay! And the training sounds cool.

Good to hear you're okay, Bro.

I once had a liner-lock Benchmade AFCK partially open in my pants pocket after a short run. I was definitely happy that the knife is tip-down only.

I learned my lesson.... No more exercise for me! ;)

My Dad got bitten by his Trance CE, he carried tip up in a watch pocket, not clipped, reached in, got one. Happens sometimes. I dont recall to experience something like that yet. Good to hear youre okey Bro.

Raven - Glad you still have all ten fingers. I guess that's one of the only downfalls of tip-up carry. Have to touch wood after that close call!
