Okay, I have been reading quite a few post here and I have noticed that a lot of folks seem to have need or desire to have back ups for knives they currently own. I admit it I am one of those folks. Are we wackos?:D I mean I do these crap with other stuff also. Sometimes I have to keep myself in check. Not because I want to, but because I am not a millionaire. If it was up to me I would probably have at least two of everything I like. Luckily my tastes are not super outlandish. I mean I don't need 2 cars of the same:D but I sure would like another Millie (it's coming) and another Sebenza. And another Ed Brown pistol.........someone stop me!!!! I can see this behavior with stuff that might be running out soon or if there is a chance of not finding another in case I loose or break the current one, but most of it you can just order another.
I use to think that this was a malady of hardcore fisherman.......Oh yeah!!!! You gotta have at least 3 lures of everything even if you never use the stuff. If it's the stuff that you use you need quite a few. Heaven forbid that you loose that Teenie-R- Crayfish lure (you fisherman know which one.... the orange/green one that weighs 1/5 ounce........little bastards always get snagged). You would likely leave all your crap right there on the the river bank while you run to Wally World.... Go ahead and laugh but I know a few fisherman who feel the same way. Maybe we should start a support group or something:eek: But I think this is true of knife nutsos also.
Okay folks fez up!

I'm not crazy, I'm just realistic. You never know when quadruple redundancy can come in handy. Yea. Not crazy. Realistic. <_< >_>

It's been a long time since I had two of the exact same knife. I mean I have 4SE Enduras (a E1, E3 and 2 E4's one VG-10, one ZDP). I'll have 2 SnG's (Tanto and Drop Point) soon. So not too bad. However I have 6 Rummikub sets:eek: , 3 Mah Jong sets ( American, Chinese and Japanese  variants)and a whole slew of out of print books on the above mentioned games. So yeah I understand what you mean totally. :)

Cheers,

I never used to buy duplicates of my knives intentionally. A couple of times I bought replacements and later found the originals, but that was it. That is, until I lost my Mini-Spike  . "No big deal," I thought, "I'll just buy another one." Guess what? They had been discontinued for five years and were nearly impossible to find. It took me a year to get a new one.

Now if I like a knife, I tend to buy a pre-need replacement or two while I can. Since I use my knives, often quite hard, it's a good bet that I will need them sooner or later.

Like So-Cal Operator says, you just never know !
And as with computers, you can avert disaster by keeping backups....always ! As I am slack with my company's and my own home server backups, I thought I'd make up by trying to get as many backups of sharp things as possible. I have on occasion 'accidentally' bought/ won some knives, but then just added them to the pile of backup so I can then use my originals a bit harder :D
Curiously though, being a Kopa nut I do not seem to have that many Kopa backups.... hmmm. Methinks it's time to sell off some of the others and get more Kopa to fill the Kopa Kabana :)

Well I think that even though this was meant to be a sarcastic/fun:rolleyes: :) thread, mostly making fun of myself, there is a bit of truth to it but then again I don't really think I have a problem.......I just need more $$$$$$:D .
So I could basically say that my issues are not psychological but financial:D

Having two or more (or variations) of a "favorite" model that is used on a regular basis is quite reasonable. People that are constantly buying new knives don't need a backup because they are constantly carrying new knives. Of couse everybody would like to have two of every knife made, but they would not really ever have a use for them. Before I buy most knives I need to halfway convince myself that I will be able to stop carrying something that is already in my pocket. For me this keeps new purchases somewhat under control. This site lowers my defenses in a big way. However after reading and looking at pictures here, I can reach in my pocket and look at what I would have to put down and a little bit of reality sinks in. YMMV.
