View Full Version : Black G-10 Native with shell inlay

Hi all. I read Sal's message about the new Native coming up soon. I'm, of course, drooling for this knife since ít's by far my favorite Spyderco knife. In fact, I already own one regular FRN Native plain and 2 Blue G-10 BF Natives plain.
Since there are a lack of pictures, I would like a detailed, or at least informative description of this new black G-10 piece. I understand that the pictures posted in BF of the Vesuvius have this shell inlay in the handle (which I believe is originally G-10 also), and it looks drop dead gorgeous. However, I've seen this handle in different colors except for black. Are these the shell inlays Sal was talking about, the same style? And if it is, how would it work with a black handle? If it isn't, could you explain to me then what shell inlays are like, and how do they affect the aesthetics of the handle?
Thank you,
-Flood

Hi Flood. the shell is inlaid into the black G10 scale. One is sort of a "burnt orange" shell, the other is more of a "blue abalone". there is about a 1/4 inch of black G10 (the scale) that borders the inlay. very striking.
The G10 shell is laid up in a thinner stock for the inlay.

Hi Sal,
Can you tell us which knife (plain or serrated) has which inlay. I just like to have a clear picture of what it is I'm getting so excited about . This Native has even made me forget about the Chinese Folder!!!!
Thanks

Yes! Blue is my favorite color! Erm, I hope the "blue abalone" Sal is talking about comes with the plain version. Yet another "blue" handle Spydie Native...would make my dreams come true!
Anxiously awaiting an answer from Sal,

The plain edge gets the blue mosaic, and the partial gets "root beer".

Yes! My prayers have been answered!
I'll have #7 or #9, please. I wonder...do you have any control whatsoever on picking the number? Do we order through phone or website? If through phone, what's the phone number?

I just got a letter from Spyderco, as all Collector Club Members, will be getting this week. Spyderco is going to give us the option of taking all the variations or just the variations we want starting with this knife:
SPYDERCO NATIVE with G10 Handles with a shell inlay of Light Blue Mosaic on the Plain Edge Blade and Root Beer Shell on the Serrated Edge. There will be only 500 of each made! They are going to be GORGEOUS!!! Here is a link to some photos:

Looks like the collectors will have first shot at the first 200 numbered knives. Here at SFO, we can take your name and credit card number and will hold the knife for you until we can contact you and "ok" the transaction. We will hold a particular number IF it is possible.
Aloha~

I tried this morning to get my name on the
list for at least one of the Plain edge blue
inlay Natives, but was told that the only list
that is going on is for the forum
Military(which I'm already on). Ideally, I'd like to tag the Native to the forum Military order, but I'll take it however I can.
If I'm going about it the wrong
way, please let me know what I should do.
thanks,
Ken

Aloha Patti! What I meant was identifying the knife "up-close", *hee-hee!* Anyway, I've checked out several spydies from Angela and Bill ~ They are awesome especially the pearl inlaid G-10 native!!
