Sorry for the long post, but I’m really excited.

I bought my first Spydie back in 1993. I really needed a one-handed opening knife, and back then, there weren’t that many options. I looked into a ballisong (too flimsy and eccentric) and a some automatics (too illegal). I finally stumbled upon this company with the strange round hole in the blade. I was pretty impressed. I couldn’t find the model I wanted, locally, and ultimately I ordered it from Golden Cutlery (as I recall). It was a black 50/50 Delica (G2). Let me tell you…that knife surpassed my expectations. I actually grew more and more fond of it as I carried it. I’ve never bought anything else that was actually better than I wanted/expected it to be. It was my EDC for almost eight years.

And then about six months ago, it vanished. I don’t know how. I usually keep track of my things…but it just evaporated. I was in denial for awhile, and didn’t want to replace it. I searched everywhere. At some point, it finally set in and I started to search for another. I tried carrying a Benchmade CQC7, but it is really too big to comfortably carry in my pocket. Most of the time, I left the house without any blade at all. That really sucked. I was constantly reaching for my back pocket to snip-snip…but there was nothing there. Anyway, I searched around for an older Delica with the FRN clip and G-2 blade, but had no luck. I didn’t want a metal clip and I didn’t want AUS-8…so I kept searching. But I could not hold out much longer. When the VG-10 became available, I gave in.

It arrived today, and I feel whole again. I love this knife. The new blade is beautiful (looks a little more grainy than my old one), and I don’t think the clip will be a problem scratching the leather on my couch or car seats (which I was fearful of). The clip is a little tighter than I’d like (I have to use both hands to get it back into my pocket, easily), but I think it will loosen up. I’m not quite used to the ‘David Boye’ style locking lever dent, but I’ll get there (anyone know what makes that better?). All in all, I’m thrilled. Just wanted to share.

I have a few general Spyderco questions…since I’ve got your attention:

1) What is a ‘hollow ground’ blade?

2) What kind of sharpener should I get to keep this baby on edge.

3) And finally, what should be my next Spyderco purchase? I NEVER want to go without an EDC, again. If I ever loose this one, I’d like to have a back-up. I bought my ex-girlfriend a Cricket (which would have been OK as a back-up) but I think it would be in poor taste to ask for it back, now. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> I liked the size, and I’d like to get something pretty small, but still functional. Maybe a Dragonfly or Toad.

BTW, I’ve already got the Spydie-bite on my left hand (four tiny blood dots from the serrated points). I really missed that!

Native for your next one.Greenes millitary in knoxville has some ser ones with out the dent. The 204 is the best sharpener on the market. And a hollow ground blade is a blade that has an inward slant coming down to the edge instead of being flat all the way to the edge.
Glad to hear you got a replacement I remember you asking me about the aus 8 steel a little while back.

Thanks, J. I'll look in to it.

I LOVE THIS DELICA! But I still want to find an FRN clip G-2, someday. Maybe at a knife show....

Damillster,

Glad to hear of your reunioun. I realize that your new style Delica won't replace the old one completely, but I think you'll grow to love the VG-10 steel of that new one. As a recent owner of a VG-10 50/50 Delica (in my pocket right now) I understand your excitement.

Keep an eye out, you'll come across another FRN clip Delica. They turn up every now and then.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

ps - We forumites enjoy long posts from other enthusiastic Spydiefolks.

Buy another Delica for a back-up, but make it a plain edge. The Dragonfly is nice also. I like the SS handle better then the FRN.
