I was walking thru the bookstore the other day and was looking for a new book to read and something caught my attention in the new paperback section. "Do I spy a Spyderco?" Yep I did. Right on the front cover of "Over the Edge" by Johnathan Kellerman. A Delica life size almost. You can ever read where it says Spyderco on the blade. I thought that was kinda neat, especially after seeing them in all kinds of movies lately.

Here what was on Amazon about it.
"An incoherent middle-of-the-night phone call from a former patient plunges child psychologist Alex Delaware into more deviance than you can shake a psyche at. Conspiracy, drugs, and serial murder most horrific are the focus of this bizarre tale performed by Alexander Adams. Adams brings full life to each of his characterizations without condescension. His women don't simper. His children aren't precious. As events build toward their heart-pounding climax, Adams's precise vocal shifts take listeners on the ride of their lives. True to the best in the Kellerman series, Adams's performance makes the world of Alex Delaware one in which heroes still strive to put things right."

Thanks Jyork, off to the bookstore!
Spyderco knives get mentioned occasionally in books....the Executioner Series of books by a.k.a. Don Pendelton feature a character named Mack Boland. Mack frequently carries Spyderco's by model name. In a recent book he had a Military inside his swim trunks.
One of the nice people at the knife store Country Knives emailed me this earlier this week. The book is "A Kiss of Shadows" by Laurell K. Hamilton. (check her website:
www.laurellkhamilton.com) The reference is on page 204: "I had a ten-inch knife in a side sheath, the tip of which was tied around my leg . . . like an Old West gunfighter. <snip> I had a Spyderco folding knife clipped over the underwire of my bra. I always carried at least two blades at court, just a rule."
Kinda catches you off guard once in a while, huh?

Hey, Joyce! There is also a reference on page 252 of Kiss of Shadows. "I had two Spyderco folding knives. I flipped one of them open. It was a six-inch blade, long, slender, gleming silver, but it was steel-their military model. Steel or iron was what you needed against my relatives. The other knife was much smaller-a Delica. Each knife had a clip-on so you just slipped them over your clothing. I checked both knives for ease of release, then closed them, and put them on. The Delica fit down the center of my bra on the underwire. I slipped a black garter over my left leg, not to hold up my hose-they didn't need it-but to hold the military blade." Now, obviously, Laurell got the length of the Military's blade wrong, but it is still great to see Spydercos show up in one of my favorite author's books! I've got all of her books and my wife and I have read each one at least four or five times! If you are insterested, Kiss of Shadows is the first book in her new series, about Meredith Gentry (real name-Princess Meredith NicEssuss of the Unseellie Court). She has written ten books in her Anita Blake-Vampire Hunter series. I cannot recommend these books enough! No Spydie sightings in the Anita Blake books, but great fun, make-you-want-to-stay-up-all-night-to-read-in-one-sitting, books!

Hi Flinx! Welcome to Spyderland! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
I thought what you said sounded wrong, with a 6 inch Military. That would still be a sweet knife, though.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Joyce,
I find that interesting..."The reference is on page 204:" kind of a "co-inka-dink"
As I just purchased a Sharpmaker <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Yeah, Sword and Shield, that is a direct quote from the book. She got the length of the blade wrong. But, considering that she is one of my favorite authors, and the fact that in her other series, she always gets her gun facts straight, I'm inclined to "cut" her some slack. :D Plus, I just love seeing Spydies mentioned in books period!

In almost all of Dick Marcinko's Red Cell books mention a Spyderco or Emerson. rr
