im one happy camper! just recieved my plain edge merlin today. this is my first spydie. the pictures dont come close to doing it justice...not by a long shot. commercial fishing knife my a$$! you couldnt hope for a better defensive knife of that size. i bought it to carry as a back up knife for my cold steel voyager but i think its gonna be the other way around from now on. i had to think it over for awhile cause i was afraid it might be to short to be very effective as a defensive knife. my mistake..its just right. this is not gonna be my last spyderco. im definitly gonna have to track down a plain edge civilian when the budget allows. thanks spyderco! you made my week!

Welcome to Spyderland, darkjedi458.
Congrats on your first Spydie. I am sure it will provide you with many years of dependable service. I am also sure that it won't be your last Spydie you buy. They're quite addictive!
I also had a Voyager from Cold Steel. Unfortunately, it did not hold up for as long as I expected. I was forced to retire it for safety reasons. I hope your Voyager fares better.
Good luck with your quest for a PE Civilian. They're hard to find. Also, keep this in mind. Read the warranty requirements before you use your Civilian. General/everyday use may void your warranty. The tip is very thin and not designed for general cutting.

you must have had one of the older plastic clip voyagers. the ones CS make nowadays are tough as a rabid cape buffalo and twice as nasty. its never let me down. if i cant find a plain edge civilian or if my budget wont allow it i think ill go with an endura or police model. thanks for the warm welcome guys and the info on the civie tip!

D/J458,
Welcome to the Forum!
johnfjensen.com has C/F P/E Civies for 137.00, I have had one for a month now. It's quite nice. If you want to save a little money and don't mind a slightly smaller knife get a Matriarch, I think it only comes in FRN though.
This will definately not be your last Spydie!!

darkjedi, I can understand your excitement with the plain-edged Merlin. I guess you saw through the smoke screen, huh? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Although the plain-edged Harpy is coming out this year, the Merlin would still be my favorite hawkbill--lightweight handle with a switchable clip for right or left side carry.

dude, I got one two months ago, there a great knife. better than you think, actually. for a light wt. they lock up really solid, and then hold an edge for a long long time. However, mine is Spyderedge. lav it, lav it lav it. now you should get the back up for the merlin, the delica.
