View Full Version : Calypso Jr. lwt. is Dragonfly's older brother?
Is the blade design the same for these two knives? They look quite similar, like brothers or per chance first cousins... I see the line that touches the SpyderHole is farther down the blade on the Dragonfly but, otherwise, they are very similar...
What do other SpyderPeople think?

Kahz,
That what I always figured too. Their lineage seems quite obvious to me.

Good eye, Kahz
You're right, they are very close in size and design. I took a quick gander at my catalogs and found that the Calypso Jr. has a blade length of 2 7/8" while the Dragonfly sports a 2 5/16" blade. If you get them both in a flat grind, they would look like distant relatives. Or maybe like father and son. A "Chip off the old block" type thing.
BTW, if you would like a Calypso Jr. and Dragonfly for your CF Dragonfly, just let me know. *Winks at Kahz*
[I still have the CF virus!]

I've noticed that in recient years Spyderco have moved away from the early wedge shape (Delica, Endura, Military), and have been moving more towards a more rounded leaf shape (Calypso Jnr, Dragonfly, Temperance Jnr).
Perhaps it's an attempt to keep a fine cutting tool, but make it look a little less agressive.

There are four flat ground spydies at present calypso jr, military, dragonfly and temperance jr. I prefer a flat grind for camping and outdoor as well as food prep, but i like the hollow grind for every day work.

How much is the temperance jr. going to cost?
In the land of knives, Spyderco is king.
Rookie,
MSRP is close to 200 bux, I believe, but Shoplite and the Knifecenter have it for around 130 bux. It looks like a very niiiiice knife.

Hmmm, I wonder if anyone would trade a CF Dragonfly for a Salsa......

This confounded CF syndrome is slightly worse than the Pink Cicket disease.
[I enjoy a good hunt though...]

Kahz,
I read ya loud and clear!
A good idea though, about posting on the Blade Forum. Hmmm, now why didn't I think of that? [Muddled thinking must be a side affect of the highly contagious CF syndrome.]
In the mean time, I'll be dreaming on.....
Thanks!
