Not that I think you are that old but does anyone remember anything about your pocket knives from the 50's and 60's. It is a subject of great interest for me and any picks or accompanying stories would be really great.

My personal knife experience didn't start until the sixties, although I have a number of knives now that are way older than that. I still have my first knife, a little bone handled tuxedo (pen knife) that I found when I was six.

Dont know the history, but been in the family "a while", and yes they are silver halmarks on the blade.

IIRC that's a fruit knife, they made the blade outta silver so it didn't discolor so easily, very cool and once the height of fashion for Victorian women. I have my GrandPa's 1930's Schrade honey bone easy open jack knife, it is the most sentimentally valuable thing I have from the old man.
Cheers,
Rob

Its a very cool knife, the other side of the blade is engraved with a name, i'll try and get a picture tomorrow in the daylight.

Give it a shot at Bernard Levine's thread at Bladeforums.
There is a great knowledge on old and antique blades over there. I love to browze arround looking at history and guessing about a blade's origin.

My first knives started with an old Vic i sadly lost and the old fashioned Herder Solingen work knives with wood handle and carbon steel blades like my granddaddy used.

I am also thinking about picking up a genuine production Laguiole.
Probably a Forge de Laguiole or Fontenille Pataud Brand as they are the only real deal of the Thiers region at this moment to my knowledge.

If i had lots of money i would pic up a special atelier maker Forge de Laguiole by VIRGILIO MUNOZ CABALLERO

:D
