benchmade, buck, cold steel, colt, CRKT, emerson, gerber, smith & wesson, SOG and... ooo what was that other knife company beggining with S... u figure it out.
just a few words whether u own any knives by them, or indeed have just heard other ppl talkin about em, just to get a general opinion. thanks for your time,

Over the years, I have used, abused, lost or broke models from most all the makers, I have learned that you get what you pay for especially with tools.
With Spyderco & Benchmade, you get excellent materials and workmanship and employees to stand by the product after the purchase.
While there are less expensive quality designs available from other makers, spending less usually involves some kind of compromise.
just my opinion.

I have some other brands and NOTHING beats spyderco.
In the land of knives, Spyderco is king.

I've beaten on a lot of knives over the years, but a few companies consistently rise to the top.
Excluding Spyderco, in order:
1) Case- I've always had a bit of a weakness for traditional knives, and these are some of the best. A little expensive, but hard to beat.
2.) Old Timer/Schrade- One folder stands as the best work knife I've ever used, the 6-OT. Strong as an ox, holds an edge like no tomorrow.
3.) Buck- 110 and 450, anyone? Good working knives, cheap. Not as good as a Spydie, but still sufficient.
Of course, Spyderco always rises higher, faster. King of knives and Ace of Blades.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

As far as production companies go, the only ones I consider worth buying folders from are Spyderco, Benchmade, Emerson, Chris Reeve, Strider.
I have had many others from many companies and feel that almost all the others use either inferior materials, inferior locks, or inferior production methods. There may be a few good ones I have missed, and I'd be happy to know about them, but for the most part I have owned/played with/used what I could get my hands on searching for the best stuff out there and those listed are the best.

I keep a few knives from Buck, Emerson, Cold Steel and CRKT. They are quite alright!

have spydies will travel
While most of my knives are from Spyderco I do have other makers:
Benchmade 690s Elishwitz Collaberation and 820s with a Spyderco patented hole. Both very nice actions.
Emerson SARK - The wave is cool, all my friends like it when I pull it out. Strong knife.
Chris Reeves Small Sebenza - very very nice.
Elishewitz Omega CF - Another excellent custom knife.
While Spyderco is my favorite Production knife company once you get a custom knife in your hands you can feel the difference. rr

Besides Spyderco, I favor Benchmade knives. They use excellent materials and seem to really stand behind their products. Currently, I have the following Benchmades: AFCK (modified by Kevin Gentile), 770, and 940.

For me, the combo of my plain-edge Endura (or some other as-yet-to-be-purchased Spydie) and a Victorinox Spartan or Leatherman Wave is a hard one to beat. And I like Buck's trad folders quite a bit too (though I only have two, a smaller 709 and a 526 Executive to tote at the office). I have no "hard feelings" toward most other knife co.s and would gladly buy up some other stuff from Camillus, Benchmade, etc. But until I win the lottery, I'll stick with the tried and true. The best. Spyderco!
