this is a question thats never been answered to my satisfaction....it says in the 2002 catalog that harpys are available in plain edge. it says on the site they only come in spyderedge. so....do plain edged harpys exist? please excuse me for beating what im sure is a dead horse around here but wasnt hannibals knife a plain edge harpy? was it a hollywood custom, old discontinued model or what? please bear with me...im a brand new spydernut and want to learn everything there is to know...but im also a plain edge freak. i tolerate combo edges when i must but 9 times out of 10 i go with plain edges when their available. to me serrations are ugly and subtract from the looks of a knife. i dont wish to be misunderstood. this is a personal preference. serrated knives serve their purpose....just not my purpose. im thrilled with my merlin (plain edge of course)and id like to get a stainless harpy...kind of a matching set..different but the same yano? i talk to much. thank you

by the way sal...if i may be so bold as to venture a design suggestion....its my opinion that spyderco could outdo the civilian and matriarch models with a larger model harpy and merlin...one with a blade say...just under 4 inches

Hi Darkjedi458,

I think that the site needs to be updated. The Harpy was spyderedge only last year (2001), and is now (2002) spyderedge and plainedge with the steel upgrade to VG-10.

not wishing to spark up a debate again i think hannibals was a blunted (spyderedge filed off) one made for the movie, wouldn't want sir anthony o be slicing and dicing his OWN fingers now would we...

(historically harpys were once available in plain edge but that was so long ago you probably won't even see one on ebay, they were discontinued years ago)
