View Full Version : Having to sign on everytime I visit
Used to be with all three of my computers that when I clicked the 'remember me' when I logged on this site remembered me. Now on all my computers regardless of which one I use I have to sign on again each time I exit Windows Explorer. I have Explorer 6 on one computer and Explorer 7 on two they all do it and this is the only forum I visit doing this to me. Didn't used to be this way so my question is> What the heck is going on here and why doesn't the site remember me?
Any ideas. I get a bit cranky in my old age and having to sign on each time I come here is apt to take its told on my fat fingers so any help appreciated.

Whenever one of mine does this to me, I go into IE settings, turn the privacy setting all the way down (accept all cookies), log on, then turn the privacy setting back up to where I had it. After that, I don't have any problem for many months. I think IE has a problem with the compact privacy policy in the site's cookie.

This began happening to many of us a few months back, all at the same time. We're really not sure why it began, but everyone seemed to notice it at the same time.
You should feel lucky; my laptop can sign on all the time, but my desktop computer can't even sign into the site most of the time. It keeps directing me to the sign-in screen, and sometimes tells me my password is not valid. When I reset to a new password, I get the same runaround, time and again. I finally gave up on it.
I'm not at all computer literate, so going in to delete/adjust cookies and various other things is, for me, a major operation like brain surgery.

I never have this problem with Firefox. Never.
I don't use IE at all unless I have to at work.

With a few extensions like "AdBlock Plus" you can never see ads again in your life. :)
I would also agree with a few of the others about clearing your cache and your temp files and close IE and open it again and give it a try.

I did this and finally figured it out just now. I was coming here to say never mind but I see some of you have already spoke up. Good show.
The above worked. Funny thing is I just deleted all my cookies and had to sign on to every site by logging in again and that is when it started. Not sure why but it did not affect any of the many other forums I belong to at all once I signed on. Just this one.
Friz has not been able to get on the forum for months due to what some of you have spoken of. He finally just gave up trying to get on. I'm sure he is probably one of many. It didn't start for him until he got a new computer. For some reason this new one simply will not work here even though its supposed to be the latest and greatest for new Vista machines. Now I'm thinking its not his system at all but this one.

+1 here as well :D
I am having the same problem. I am not remembered and have to sign in everytime. I lowered my Internet security and that did not work for me. I still have to sign in. Now if I could just remember my name and password without having to look it up everytime...:(

Did you lower the security setting or the privacy setting? The Privacy setting is the one that affects the cookie handling, not the Security setting. The site cookie is where your login is stored.

If you do decide to try FireFox, along with AdBlock+, install Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer, it will keep your bookmarks sync'd across all your PC's!
Works great.

In IE 7, go to tools; internet options then security. Highlight 'Trusted Sites', then click the Sites button. Add http://www.spyderco.com. Click close, apply and then ok. This worked for me when I had the problem. It will open up the Spyderco site in a new webpage, however; rather than a new tab.
