View Full Version : Tusok updates?

As of two weeks ago (12-22-01) the citizenry of metro Boston, all residents of MA who commute to Boston for work or any other reason, and anyone visiting the city are now restricted to a blade length of 2.5" or under. Thus now even the Gunting, Lil' Temperances, and the planned Yojimbo are too big for legal carry here.
Any updates on the Tusok design?
Does it have to be a folder, or is a fixed blade ok?

Regarding the law? All knives carried on one's person in public have to be 2.5" or under, folders and fixed blades alike. I guess the tricky part for a lot of people is SAKs and multitools, many of which have blades that tip the new legal scales.
Carlos: i'm working on the next revision of the prototype..
I was adding belly to the blade and a touch of length to the handle and an increase in the curve of the inside of the handle..but the Blade is really small..
how nice!
And I thought that 2 7/8ths was small..ROFL..

Thanks Bram.
I bet you never expected to hear anyone clamoring for a smaller Gunting.

Carlos:
the cutting edge is actually 2 1/8th inches ..the blade is 2 3/8ths..measured at longest direction that I could think of..
so its UNDER 2.5 inches...
I made a hooking blade with a reverse utility belly on it..
going to have it cut out of plastic to try it very soon..
so I can handle it and evaluate it..
Yup..who would have thunk of it..
a smaller Gunting..
The Gunting as is is the perfect LEO-Security Tool..
perfect for the flight crews and the pilots.
the Mini will be great for EDC carry if IMPACT is not the immediate goal..thought it should still hurt to get hit..
ROFL..

Hi Bram,
What do you see as the primary role for the Tusok? A more "civilian" alternative to the Gunting?
If I can guess at a few reasons:
1. Lighter weight: The Gunting is a big knife at 6 oz. I expect that Tusok would come in around 2.5 to 3 oz in FRN with nested liners.
2. Legalities: The Gunting is legal almost anywhere, but the 6mm blade on the Tusok would make it legal anywhere that locking folders are legal -- even in some Federal buildings.
3. More sheeple friendly: Smaller size, non-black colouring. I suppose a less aggresive appearance overall.
4. Cost: As the first as only FRN MBC folder, it will be financially accessible to a much larger audience.
BTW, did you ever decide on a colour for the FRN? Last time you mentioned grey as a possibility.
PLEASE don't let anyone talk you into using those ugly black clips! Matte or polished or brushed: Anything but black -- the Gunting was better without it!
Hey Jim,
Good to know that I am not the only one bugging him about this.

Carlos: yes to all of your statements..
smaller, lighter, less expensive, less sheeple impact...
aggressive cutting & trapping..very small blade,
and very easy to use..ROFL..
Yes. I have to avoid Blue & red..these are reserved for Drones and Tools..training & user tools..
Grey is a good nuetral color..
Dark Green is OK...
congrats on being the BF moderator!!!

Guess I'm late at the party, but what the heck! I am one guy fascinated by the Gunting, but I'd really love a smaller one. Already drooling

I hope we all get to see a proto @ the NYC Custom show this Nov 1....
