Many pardons. I was being a bit of an A$$.
I am editing this as hopefully an apology for making myself appear a jerk, I did not intend to do so.

Some Meerkats do have play in them from the very start, this usually is no big deal unless it is quite signifigant. As far as I know, there are not even black clips available for the cricket. I sincerely apologize if you are not satisfied with the warranty/repair department's work. They usually do a very good job. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to give them a call and pick their brain a little bit. They will be more than happy to help ya out. The number is (800) 525-7770. Hope this

My initial post was a little harsh. There is no notch on the blade. Not sure by what you mean when you say a second. They acted like a black clip was available and never actually said there is not one. I did not think it would be a big deal to have TWO screws replaced. There was a lot of blade play in the meerkat and when I showed it to a dealer he reccomended that I send it in.
Over two months ago I sent in a Walker Jr. for sharpening and check for $5. Nothing yet. Recently ordered a sharpmaker to avoid this in the future. Hopefully sales volume is/will be up and Spy can hire more personnel/expand/diversify etc. Sal is overwhelmed and probably deserves a raise.

Not sure if this is taking the thread in a different direction, but I would like to know if a new Spydie I received is a second. I've never heard of this "notch", so I attached a couple of pictures. Sorry for the fuziness, hard to keep my hands still enough to get the closeup.
The odd thing is I was happy to get this knife as it is the first one for me to have a serial number. Now I'm a bit bummed.

That may or may not be what he was talking about. I think a notch like that is fairly common in knife design. I know there is that one a SAK I have.

That's kind of what I thought, marauder. It just seems strange that the notch is only on one side.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Ken
A "second" is a knife that has a manufacture's defect (be it a slight mechanical defect or a cosmetic defect). Many seconds are acquired through gun/knife shows. Seconds are marked with a small notch or nic found on the backside of the blade (the spine - i.e. not the sharpened side of the knife). The notch does not look natural and is not meant to be hard to see. If you have a second, the notch is fairly easy to identify. Seconds also have no warranty, as the repair department has already had to work on them in order to make a sellable product. Hope this helps clarify a little better.

Bergebo, the notch you are refering to is part of the design of the knife. That notch does not indicate it being a second. See above post for further clarification.

Thank you for the explanation. It is most definitely not a second.

Thanks Ryan. Now I can enjoy it without those crazy doubts running through my head.
It's a Vesuvius, by the way. My first look at the compression lock. Pretty sweet.

I talked to mike. It was just us misunderstanding each other. I hope nobody thought I was talking sh!t about him. Once again I apologize for that. He misunderstood what I had wanted done to my cricket and Spyderco is sending me a new meerkat. I had thought it was going to be together and I was a little worried when I only received on knife that was apparently in the same condition in which I sent it. They are sending me a new meerkat and the parts that I requested and $5. Sorry Mike.
