A great man passed away yesterday

Hamilton Jordan, the chief of staff to Jimmy Carter died last night. He had been battling Mesothelioma for a long time, and we were all very surprised he made it this far. No news story here, but his son was my best friend. We're all a little shaken up right now.

Largely known for developing the strategy for bringing the very wacky, ( some say worst ever president) Jimmy Carter to power. He is also known for successfully helping to give away the panama canal which still angers some, unsuccessfully negotiating with the Iranians after they invaded the US embassy and took Americans hostage for over a year, torturing and abusing them amongst other activities.

After attempted runs at political office himself he then worked on H.Ross Perots ( nearly as arrogant and wacky as Carter) unsuccessful campaign for president as an independant.

A very busy man, even finding time to write a few books. Must have been a strong guy judging from his long battles with cancer.

From what I read, he was a brilliant political strategist, a real contribution to our nation. I appreciate his part in bringing Carter to the presidency. I believe he is the most decent man to hold that office in my lifetime.
