Hopefully this link works -

http://www.gpx.com/store/p/111-MW3836.aspx

it was almost an iPod, but then after what I've read here I opted
for for something that was both easier to change the battery and
easier on the wallet ( $31.00 at family dollar store ).

vampyrewolf'll oblige to download some tunes for me. Any other
mp3 owners out there ( I'm sure! ).

Now to get a bit more COMLIT. Then the GPX MW3836 will rock!

That one's easy compared to my first MP3 player... had to go through 4-5 menus to even get to the point where I could load tunes on it... and with a 64mb storage (and SM cards are hard to find now) it got done often.

gotta love being the one family member who can figure this stuff out... I get to get my paws on a lot of different technology. Hell, I've got 4 palm pilots, parts for 3-4 computers, couple old mp3/cd players, and my old mp3 player in boxes... never mind that I'm working on building an old computer back up and have an old laptop to play with (thinking it'll make a nice 2nd screen).

Probably take you longer to make up a list of music for it than it'll take me to get it done on my end.

I bought a 2 Gig MP3 player like that for around $30 the other day, I think they are getting way cheaper then they used to be.

I have a Sansa SanDisk with 4.0 GB. I don't have much music on it. I use it for audio books all the time. My public library has free audio book downloads.

gutenburg.com Project Gutenburg, has both text and audio books, think they're at 20,000 now. Nothing new, due to copywrite laws, but still worth looking at. audio books are both human and machine generated.

librivox.org and podiobooks.com are all audio books, all human read... some good, some bad.

scifi-az.com is all sci-fi books, little known authors trying to get thier stuff out as well as a couple well known ones thrown in.

Lets just say that my 1gb shuffle has audio books on it 90% of the time, since we're allowed mp3 players at work. Just finished up a 30hr series yesterday (29 files, 55-65min each), get to reload it tomorrow.

As far as price... I spent $120 on a 1gb shuffle a year or so ago. Bought a replacement a couple months ago for $45. Saw a number in the $30-60 range depending on expansion options. Actually getting another player this week, http://shop.vendio.com/dealeur/item/961859154/?s=1197977440 Walmart has the 1gb for $30 here.
