I just talked to my bro Raven a little while ago. He was injured on-duty while chasing a BG through a construction site. Raven caught up with the BG guy grabbed and went to ground. Rave lost his step on concrete slab, tried to brace himself for the fall...........hand slid a bit into a bunch of Rebar. It mangled his hand pretty good.

He had one surgery yesterday and another scheduled for Thursday to try an repair the detached nerve ending in his hand. Please send out your prayers and well wishes to my bro. As you all know he was preparing for a big bmx season. Raven was pretty down about the season, but more concerned about his Spydy family knowing that he is okay, so give him a soundoff when you can!.......................Raven heal well and follow the Doc's and mama Ravens orders!;)

I hate hearing that about Raven. He seems like a strong, positive guy and I imagine won't stay slowed down any longer than he has to.

Raven may be slowed down a little bit, but I think if we look at his past history, it will take much more than an injured hand to keep him out of commission for any length of time. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger - right?

Get better soon, bro! I've been praying for your speedy recovery.

Hello All, THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH for All The Prayers, Kind Words, and Positive Thoughts ... THEY ALL MEAN AN AWFUL LOT TO ME ;).

THANK YOU BRO STONYMAN FOR GIVING THE FAMILY A HEADS UP AND KEEPING THEM UPDATED ;).

Well ... the second surgery was successful. The doctor was able to find and attach all nerves that were damaged ... THANK THE LORD ;)!!! Before starting the surgery, he told me there was a possibility he wouldn't be able to repair it to where it functioned properly. When I heard that, I felt my heart jump into my throat ... Everything I had just worked so hard at was gone ... My Career as an LEO, My BMX Comeback, All My DT and Firearms Training ... EVERYTHING GONE!!!

The doctor stated that he was going to do everything he could to save my hand. It all lingered on him being able to find a nerve he believed may have been torn from my hand during the accident. He said the reason for that, was there was a large gap in my hand and couldn't find the nerve that was once there during the first surgery???

2.5 hours after the second surgery, the doctor was able to find the nerve to fill that gap and connected it with a conduit to help heal the nerve. The doctor had to cut into the tip of my ring finger, down my wrist, and was able to find that nerve in my forearm where it had cut and retracted ... kind of like when a worm gets cut. The doctor was AWSOME and refused to give up looking until he found it and repaired it. I Had My Parents, Lovely Girlfriend, and the SPYDERCO FAMILY THERE WITH ME Throughout this ordeal.

Now it's all about patience and rehab. This is going to be difficult, but I know I can make a full recovery.

AGAIN ... THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!! I HAVE A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME, BUT LIKE EVERY RACE WHERE I'VE BEEN THE UNDERDOG ... I'LL JUST PUSH FORWARD AND NOT GIVE UP OR GIVE IN ;). I'll keep you all updated. Take Good Very Care and Be Safe Always.

DAYWALKER, STUBBORNISM ...WHAT STUBBORNISM  :p??? THANK YOU FOR THE PRAYERS BRO/S2 ;).

God Bless All :)

Thanks for the update Raven. I hope the rehab is going ok. I've had a few in my life and have come to marvel at what a good therapist can do. There is pain of course, but it is worth it.

You have the personality and stregth in you that makes comebacks possible. Not everyone does.

Listen to your Physical therapist. Follow the instructions and home excercises. Keep that communication going with your PT and try not to hold back info from them due to stoicness or a sense of macho or pride. I screwed up a rehab and ended up back in surgery because of it once.

Live and learn. Endure and overcome. Regards, Joe

Major good news to hear they got the nerve reattached Gil and that you'll get back the full use of your hand. Definitely one of those moments when you realize how thin a thread our "normal" lives hang on. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

figured after last year's bike accident you couldn't do much worse... then you go trying to lose your hand :p

Remember.. just as much when chasing someone as trying to lead the pack... blue up, brown down... not brown "rapidly approaching face" ;)

Listen to your physio (even if you're both tired of seeing each other again), it makes it a lot easier in the long run.

Hey All, AGAIN THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART ;)!!! it's always such a pleasure to see these KIND WORDS ... It gives me the positive attitude to keep pushing forward.

Just resting up like the Doc wants me to. I have a follow-up visit on June 17 ... we'll know more of what to look forward to on that day. I just need to REALLY LEARN PATIENCE and QUIT BEING STUBBORN !!! Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

YOU TRULY ARE AN AWSOME FAMILY!!!
