I have had a pretty hard time trying to sharpen and strop my d4.

I used a guided ceramic, a strop with diamond compound and it still wont shave hair.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Use magic marker trick to check if sharpening at correct angle, if you are reprofiling probably you will need something coarser than ceramic. BTW, how coarse is your ceramic?

Try getting serrations sharpened properly, its tough but after good practice it gets better.
i still dont seem to get it back to out the box sharpness, but 'thats SCARY SHARP!
I have also tryed the magic marker trick and it works well.

I used some dmt stones and aligner on a wharcom changed the angle to razor blade/ exacto knife setting and got it scary sharp today, but that's AUS8.

It took a very long time (a few hours) but I would say this is the sharpest knife I have ever owned.

I think I'm ready to try the delica next.

But with the time it took I may be better off just sending it in to be sharpened.

I think the grits are 900 and 1200 not including the coarse.

They're dmt red, blue and green stones.

Wow, a few hours for a Wharcom seems like a really long time. I can get mine beyond shaving sharp in a matter of minutes, but I'm using a Sharpmaker, which is my suggestion for sharpening proficiency. :D It really is a phenomenal tool and with just a little bit of practice, you will be getting all your knives (serrated too) hair-splitting sharp in no time. If you do decide to get the Sharpmaker, I would strongly suggest getting the UF rods to go with it. They are what make the difference between really, really sharp and superscarybeyondfactory sharp. Oh yeah, I finish off with a charged (Flitz polish) leather strop too.
