Have any of you gotten to play with the Benchmade ERT-1 (Red class)? It's something I've been interested in for a while, and it seems to have some awesome features at a great price. I know it's not specifically a "knife," but I'm kind of eager to check out the spring-loaded glass breaker in person. At a MSRP of ~$40.00, it's gotta be even cheaper than that if you're actually to buy it.

I have never used an ERT-1. I however do have a Res-Q-Me on my keychain. They are only $10.00 if you are looking for a spring loaded glass breaker/seatbelt cutter.
Check them out here: http://www.resqme.com/
They also have them at Amazon.com too. That's where I bought mine.

Hmmm. I was thinking I could keep it in a car or in my pocket; I already have a bunch of stuff on my keychain.

I got an ERT-1 for the wife and she loves having it in her vehicle. The edge is razor sharp and the little LED is good too. I had teh same problem of no spare auto window around to break.
However if you check youtube there are videos of it in action and "explosive" is a pretty good description.

I'm not quite sure how it works, but doesn't it "activate" the spring upon impact? So, if you're trying to "smite" a window, I assume you just hit it, and then the spring-load mechanism activates and shatters the remnants.
...I was wondering if a junkyard would care if you're looking for parts and you happen to "test" your ERT-1 while you happen to be there.

You don't really have to hit the window for it to activate the center punch. Just apply moderate pressure to the corner of the window and that should crack/break the glass to wear you can easily push the rest out.
Having said that, I think it's a good investment for the price.
