View Full Version : That "Sea Change" Pearl Veneer G10

Any new news on what the seashell-surface G10 as used on Spyderco's Vesuvius prototypes is going to be called, what else it might show up on, degrees and patterns of coverage, or estimated production schedules?

Sal mentioned at least a passing thought of doing the Shabaria that way. A Dragonfly-size gentleperson's knife done that way would also be "cool."

James - We're looking at the possibilities now.

Anybody have any suggestions?

A Dragonfly with the "Pearl" would be great!! That would give me 2 spyderco church knives. I don't know about a Shabaria. That just doesn't seem right for that knife, but that's just me.

A pearly C50 and Viele would be pretty spec. Oh, and a pearly Calypso naturally.

Cricket with sea change Scale will be pretty

I'd like to see the Centofante Jr. get the "shell" treatment. To me it's a "gentleman's" rather than a "tactical" knife and doesn't really work in G10. Lately my daily carry has been an old style grey model (thanks, Ferret :)) which I like much better than my G10 one.

Shabaria - Will appeal in shells!

Clay. I have a proto Centofante Jr with a G-10 shell inlay. It is very nice.

Oh Sal, why did you have to tell me that, I've just dribbled all over my keyboard. Do you think they'll go into production?

Cheers,

Clay. Haven't decided yet. It looks nice though. We do have parts.

The Viele in "shell" sounds great.
The Shabaria, I'd like to see in white.

Here's another vote for a pearl Dragonfly.

I haven't seen or felt such a thing to be sure, but I think the pearly surfaces should have flutes milled into them both for visual contrast and for traction.

Of course you just have to call it "Spydershell."

Alt. spelling: SpyderShell.

"I'll take a serrated Vesuvius with green Spydershell handle..."

The Centofante Jr with G-10 shell scales is a cool idea. Could we get a pic? Is it a great increase in material cost to use the G-10 shell instead of the normal black/grey G-10?

I agree that a Dragonfly or Cricket would be ideal for this material. Maybe a Mini-Dyad also ?

Carlos. We'll be making this material available to other makers and factories, so a name with "Spyder" in in won't go over well. I've been calling it "G10 shell".

Hi Sal,

Oh well, I had to try.

If you ever reissue the Jot Singh Khalsa, it would be a good candidate for white G10 Shell scales. Then it would look more like his custom pieces.

Here are some Khalsa scan urls with Charoite scales the illustrate the idea:

One question I forgot to ask about Temperance: Will it have green G10 scales like the prototype?

The Shabaria is one of my favorite knives and I would definitely buy a g10 shell version. How long will it be before the g10 shell is introduced on some of your current knives?
