I once read somewhere on Bladeforums that keeping a knife in a leather sheath can damage the blade, and the catalog says that it comes with a leather sheath.
So is the damaging of the blade due to leather sheathing true, or do I have no worries?

I believe that was due to a chemical that is sometimes used in the tanning process. You could always have the guy at skunkworks make a kydex/concealex one for you. I think his name was Mike. I don't think that spyderco would put the Lum in a sheath that would damage it.

KK,
I think that storing a carbon steel knife in a leather sheath for an extended length of time with no maintenance can cause problems.
A stainless steel knife ( or even a carbon steel one ) that see's somewhat regular maintenance shouldn't have a problem. I have a generic 440C bladed knife that I made ( well, attached and shaped the handles ) back when I was in Jr. High, that has been stored in a leather sheath since then, with no corrosion or dis-coloration. That has been about 20 years ago.

Maintenance in this case is very simple. Just care for the knife with regular cleanings, and you will have no problems.
My method of prepping a knife for long storage is this: wipe the blade down with alcohol to remove any oils from fingerprints. Clean blade thoroughly. Wipe blade again with alcohol. Rub blade with oil or lubricant of your choice.
This simple process will keep knives clean and ready for many years. Good luck! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.
