I was a bit sceptical on trying out D2 bladesteel,as it is not classified as a stainless steel, but as a toolsteel, but one of my D2 folders have proven itself to have, even better corrosion resistance than 420HC.
Ive used this D2 bladesteel for all kinds of applications of cutting and slicing, where lots of moisture was involved, and even with minimal maintenance, the D2 bladesteel has shown no signs of corrosion.
i have to add that Bob Dozier has a real good recipe for D2,and superb heattreatment of this toolsteel,WRT good edgeholding, corrosion resistance etc.
D2 if properly manufactured,is a good bladesteel,with real good qualities,IMO.

The CPM'ized D2 that Spyderco grabbed up has turned out to be pretty good in that respect also. I've heard some say it's better even than ingot D2.

D2 isn't really one of my favorite steels regardless though I do like my Millie and paramillie in CPM D2. Joe

having CPM infront of the D2 sure has a nice ring to it.
just a question on the CPM,'does this mean its a powdered metal mix of D2,before the smelting process?lastly, how does CPM D2,compare WRT edgeholding to normal D2?

Yes, and I can't say I've got enough objective information to really make that judgement. I've got the knives but still tend to use the VG10/ZDP/BG42, and S90V more. My D2 knives are virtually new.

Yablanowitz would be the go to guy for this question. All I can say is what other people say, and that's not really a great way to do business. Joe

I've had less corrosion and better edge retention on my CPM D2 Spydies than on either Queen or Benchmade D2 knives which are presumably ingot D2. YMMV. I've heard Dozier is a wizard with D2, but I don't have any of his knives.

I've got a Dozier design D2 folder from KA BAR,and its a real nice folder. sharpens up quite easy for D2,has real good corrosion resistance and slices and cuts like a demon.Anyway they probably have to go according to MR Dozier's recipe for D2,even in offshore production.
a custom piece from the man himself, would likely be the cream of the crop.
Good, proper heattreatment seems to be the essential link to producing the best results in bladesteels.
