Today I had to do a speech for my Communications class on something that I was interested in. **Smiles**

To make the story short, I ended up talking about Spyderco knives. Yes, my prof didn't have a problem with me pulling out several of my Spydies! Needless to say, the whole class seemed to be interested in my topic, and I even got 3 knife orders from a fellow classmate. [I am a knife maker on the side. ] All in all, I enjoyed that speech more than any other speech I have [or probably will] ever do. [ They espcially liked the SpyderCard! ]

Thank you again, Sal, for a product worth giving a presentation of!

Joyfully,

~Spydernut

Golem,

I started making knives a few years ago. [In '94 or '95, I believe.] It all began when I had an interest in designing and making my own fixed bladed hunting knives. I bought my own supplies: steel, handle materials, etc. and began experimenting with different designs. After a few years and some success with fixed bladed knives, I began to explore the area of folding knives. Bob Terzuola's book on tactical knife making has been a wonderful help on this area. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in starting their own knifemaking business. As far as my locking mechanism: I was always intrigued with the Walker Lock, and I began to use it in my folders. I invested in some folding knife materials, including G-10, Torx drive bolts, ATS-34 blade steel, and pocket clips. [I order most of my supplies from Koval Knives INC.] Right now, I am probably at least 3 to 4 months behind on my orders. I normally make tactical/traditional folding knives that are made for everyday use. I have made a few 'nice' knives that will probably only see a display case. It is my desire that any knife I make will be a functionable, useful knife that no matter what it looks like, will be something that someone will use every day. 'Display only' knives are fine, but I want the buyer to be satisfied with my knife by using it.

I love this type of work, it is my most favorite 'hobby' by far.

BTW Golem, I was just wondering, how do you post your pics on the Net? I have a scanner, but I never figured out the process....
Thanks!

I consider folders "advanced knifemaking". Cool you dove into it, I´d love to see some pictures.
BTW, I remember giving a speech in a high school class about the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger and it´s history, complete with a live blade example. Remember my teacher being a little astounded ("That thing´s got a sharp point!&quot. It was great fun. Spread the knife-word everywhere!

spydernut, glad to know that you are making folders. I guess you may get a discount from sal for a spyderco hole authorize

It's easy to put pics to the net. You can try any of those websites providing free web spaces like geocitys etc.
Do it fast, I can't wait to see your works.

**Laughing gleefully**

Vlf_11, I'm glad you brought that up!

When I pulled out my Spydies, my prof simply smiled and didn't say anything. I kept my eye on her the whole time of my speech as I didn't know what she was thinking. After my class, she came up and asked to see one of my knives. [Utili-Key by Swiss Tech.]. Anyway, she said that she didn't mind the knives at all. SOO, I might be treadin' on thin ice on this one!

BTW, I go to Tri-State University here in Angola. There are a TON of different ethnic groups here. Its really kind of neat.
I wonder if any of the guys from India carry a Shabaria....
