Who is the manufacturer? I'll try to get better pics/video.
I just heard that a car commercial will be filmed up here in the Central Oregon Cascade Mountains @ the Black Butte Ranch @ 6PM tonight Saturday).
Apparently the german car gets 75 mpg.
Anyone know anything? My guess is BMW diesel...
Might try to get some photos. I am a short bicycle ride away.
Video link: on post #4. Target car is shrink-wrapped white.

Sisters is a small (no traffic lights & no parking meters) town, with a western look, at about 3k ft altitude, on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mtns. About 10,000 folk attend the quilt show. A few quilts will go from here to the Smithsonian per an attendee.

Lots of police, California license plates on crew vehicles, the car is shrink-wrapped in white plastic and appears on the left of the video. Only a small portion of the windshield is unmasked. I wonder if they will unwrap it for the commercial or not. Perhaps they can add the exterior of the car in a Spielburg manner. The video will be downloaded in another few minutes and I will post a link.

The silver sedan sitting next to the target car is an Audi. Perhaps the target is an AUDI.
A search of the internet yields me no clear winners.
Who is the mfg?

The 75mpg and German info came from the clerk of a nearby small store where my lovely wife was buying ice for marguaritas. Here say.
I will try to get more pics.

My guess would be a mercedes. i haven't seen a volkswagen or an audi with that shape. it looks very similar to the car they designed for chrysler. but a coupe with a big engine wouldn't get that kind of mileage. very strange

I spoke with one of the police officers and he said that he had agreed to remain silent as to what was going on here. He would not confirm the mfg.
I don't see the wipers. Isn't that a Mercedes feature?
Interesting mystery for me. Perhaps I'll drive one someday.

My verdict:
Mercedes CLK 2009, set to debut in Paris this October.
Based on wheels and front lower grill. (I now believe that the 75mpg stuff was a red herring)

Unusual, departure from the normative, commercial use of vacation ranch: secret car commercial. I've been coming here for 30 years and this is a first in this small remote mtn resort community.
Semi-fun figuring out what was going on and what car was the focus. I like a mystery.
The apparent secrecy attracts attention so I suspect that attention is not altogether unwelcome. Heck, the shoot was on the main road to the most used facilities here (golf course, lodge, restaurant, pool, etc).
It would have been more rewarding to me if the car had turned out to be a mileage champ/cutting edge technology/something new.

I'm willing to bet $10 that it's Mercedes or BMW or even Audi.
You might think I'm crazy...
But I think it's a new, Four Door...
Porsche!
Before you all burn me at the stake for heresay, take a look at the front and compare it to the 911:

And the profile and rear end look like a chubbier version of the Cayman:

Any arguements?

I zoomed in to the front view and although the word/words on the bottom front of the white car cover are somewhat obliterated I can make out only the first three letters: CAY.

It also seems that there is a hybrid Panamera coming out pretty soon:

Cayman or cayenne, probably cayenne. i would be surprised though that they didn't fabricate a brand new cover that fits better. Also, since Audi is owned by VW, and VW and Porsche have worked together in the past, it wouldn't be as strange for an Audi to be present as it would be for a Mercedes commercial.
But the article doesn't mention any amazing diesel engine planned. If they take the twin turbo diesel from the Toureg, it will not be getting 75 MPG

Wow, the first thing I though of was a four door Porsche when I saw the pictures, but apparently you guys beat me to it.

All of the German automakers share technology and supplier parts. It could be anything from one of them. If it is not production ready the manufacturer could do almost anything.
If it looks like a Porche, sounds like a Porche, it could still be an Audi or VW.
I once had an Opel that required replacement parts from Bosch. They were so expensive I might have as well been driving a Porche. The specialty parts dealer said they were listed as Porche parts. The parts cost more than the car was worth. It was a wonderful car but not that wonderful.

Porsche was my first guess also, but I dismissed it. I'm coming back to it and say it's a Panamera. Compare the rear ends.

By the look of the headlights and front bumper on the covered car, it looks like a Porsche to me too.

True, a lot of companies share tech and parts, but it is not very common unless the companies are actually in business with each other (I know VW and Porsche are basically the same company). There are more extreme examples of cross company helping though, I believe it was porsche who helped Harley Davidson make the new engine for their VRod. Looks on the other hand, are very different. Porsche tries to keep a signature style that can be dated back to the early 911: the frog eye headlights, the low hood, the rounded rear bumper, and the sloping rear glass. Most of these features can be seen in every model produced now (even the cayenne to a lesser extent), this helps to make a more recognizable brand.
Bosch is a company that develops technology and supplies for many different car makers. I know that Bosch was a chief origionator in the electronic fuel injection back in the 80's, and played a major part in systems such as ABS and Traction Control. I suppose that some parts were specially made for the high end companies, and they eventually trickled down to the lower end.
