Hi Vermy,
Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.
The latest version of the Shabaria has dual steel liners.

ok will check that out when it arrives.
Thanks
Um... I'm not sure about that.
I bought the older partially serrated design because it was my understanding that the Shabaria will only be made in plain edge.
My supposedly old Shabaria has dual liners.
Vermy - I suggest you search for old threads on the Shabaria, they will hold the answer. (Something to the effect of off-set arc ramp and excentric piviot)
Beautiful choice. It's my favorite too!

Here's where I got the info:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=1 face=arial>quote:<hr height=1 noshade>Posted - 15 July 2001 8:43
"The Tim Zowada and Shabaria designs are back in production with dual steel liners and arc ramps."

Yet here is another quote from the other forum from before the Shabaria was introduced that says it has has dual liners all along.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=1 face=arial>quote:<hr height=1 noshade>11-04-1999 02:33 PM
Liong - The Shabaria Model (Eduard Bradichansky design) is in production and we expect to begin shipping within the next month.
Blade - Hollow ground VG-10, plain edge or combination edge. Rc 60-61
Handle material - Black Micarta, bead blasted, domed rivets. Two full length liners (one creates lock)
Black clip (gold bug) tip down carry.
The blade length is 4" (as large as the Military), but the diminuive handle mass and thin curved blade shape give the appearance of a much smaller knife. Interesting illusion.
Should have one to show in NY Show.

I guess the problem with that other quote is that only the JD Smith needed the liner upgrade, but both got the arc ramp upgrade.

The JD smith is a lockback, dont see it needing a arc ramp.

So the upgrade on the Shabaria is the Arc-ramp. Can you even see that without taking the knife apart?? Just wondering.

Thanks for all the good info guys!
can anyone explain what an arc ramp is?

As I understand it, the ramp at the back of the blade, where the liner lock engages, is ground to an arc with an offset centre. Should keep the lock tight as the liner wears and mean a longer period before the lock wears out or needs adjusting.

It list the phone number, location, email. All that stuff. Email me if you need directions, but it is not hard to find, and you need to GO!! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Thank you! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Here's one. 7.5" blade, silver hilted. A traditional dagger of the Bedouin living in the region of Israel and Jordan. A relative of the more common and well known Jambiya.
This one isn't that old, made sometime in the 20th century.

Also one upgrade that I didn't notice Carlos mention is that the new ones are screwed together and have a open frame. The old ones were pinned together and had a spine made of frn if I remember correctly.
A SPYDERCO knife is the most expensive and least effective screwdriver you will ever buy. However, we do have the "bladestretcher " if we need it....

slightly off-topic here...
I noticed that some of the new Spyderco knives have, as you call it, an open frame.
The Salsa and the 'Lil Temperance both have an open frame; only posts between the two scales. It's pretty neat. I think the Lum Chinese Folder would work well, like this, too.
