This afternoon, as I was perusing my Spydie collection, I realized I had fell victim to the "Collecter-itis" bug again, and once again, had more knives than I *needed*, So I decided to trim down the collection, get rid of knives that I didn't use
I was able to cull;
Native SE Black blade
Delica 4 SE FG
Tasman Salt (I had 3 of them, 2 SE, 1 PE, my older SE was culled)
Salt 1
Kershaw Leek (it would pick up cosmetic rust just sitting there, unused, thanks to the salt marsh on our property)
Cold Steel Twistmaster (like the Leek, it would rust in our salt-marshy air)
the rest of my knives I *can't* part with, as I use them, I still have a decent amount of knives even after this culling;
CLB Wharcom
Lava
Dyad Jr
Jester
Rainbow Leek
Buck 110 (2)
Delica 4 (Wave, and ZDP-189 PE)
Millie
Para
Dodo (3)
Tasman (2)
Mini-Persian
Kiwi SS
Cricket PE SS
anyway, I got a decent amount of store credit for my culls, there was nothing new or interesting at the knife counter, so I went over to the guns, looking at the used .22's, I spied a *mint* condition Ruger 10/22 Carbine with Bushnell 3-9X scope, the wood furniture was unblemished, the barrel pristine, the scope, sharp and bright, it was in excellent shape, the reciever opened and closed with a crisp snap, and the price was only $200
Sold!
I picked up the gun, it's 10 round magazine, and a 25 round "banana" clip, and still had around $5 in store credit left over!
Gotta love "free" guns, and I don't have to feel bad, as I was not spending any additional money to get it, the knives paid for the gun
I took it out about an hour ago, and popped off a couple CCI CB Long rounds through it, the gun is nice and accurate, even though I did have to cycle the action manually to eject the spent brass as CB rounds don't have the power to cycle the action
the 10/22 is a great little rimfire, and I'm looking forward to customizing it, not sure if I want to go for a full-length wood stock (like the old M-1 Garand rifles), or go with a synthetic stock, I do want to add either a bull barrel or front-weighted barrel to it though, it'd also be nice if I could get a .22 WMR barrel and a .17 WMR barrel for it (assuming the reciever is the same)
One thing I was not expecting though is how much *louder* the gun is when compared to my H&R .22 single shot, the Ruger's easily twice as loud as the H&R with the same identical ammo (CCI CB Long), don't get me wrong, the Ruger isn't *loud* per-se with the CB ammo, it's just that when firing the CCI CB Long ammo in the H&R, the loudest noise the gun makes is the sound of the hammer falling on the firing pin, I can fire the H&R without any hearing protection when using CB Longs, plus, I can also fire BB Caps, .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle in it, the Ruger's limited to 22 Long and Long Rifle
Still, the Ruger's a great little gun
So now my firearm collection consists of;
H&R .22 single-shot
Ruger 10/22 Semiauto
Mossberg Model 500 12-gauge pump
Parker VH-grade 12-gauge side-by-side, a family heirloom, in great shape with factory parkerizing at around 98%
