Karambits without a curved blade? I think thats just a knife with a finger hole. Shouldn't even be considered a k-bit. Anyways, I'm looking into getting one, and a mantis one seems to meet my curvy needs and price point.
Any opinions, suggestions? Thankya

I vastly prefer curved blade Kbits, but I could be tempted by the Tanto-bladed beauty in this photo..........the upper is mine and should be here shortly...............both K's by Tom Kyle of CKT fame..........

I have another CKT K that I bought from a knife buddy here in Western Australia, CE scales, blue ring and as sweet as. ;)

Emerson makes 3. The CQC-7, Commander, and Bull Nose Karambits.
There are some interesting applications for these knives, actually a reverse grip edge out grip works great, and would keep the knife in hand with the ring.

Yea, good point about retention, but could it even still be considered a karambit with a straight blade? Considering the application of a kbit as a fighter involves alot of pulling cuts, the absence of a curve seems like a pretty big fault. Some of those straight-bladed guys still look pretty secks, however. :D
That emerson especially. Just slip your index finger in and pull, and you're already in a good fighting grip with your blade out ( facing out, and actually "out":) )

IIRC, Rob Simonich used to make something he called "utility karambit", basically a drop point fixed blade knife wih a ring at the butt.

Where can you find one of those? I briefly looked around...
That one in the last post is Wilson Combat, is it not?

+ A big ONE on that.
Much of the fighting functionality of the karambit is lost if the blade is not curved.
As for Mantis--I have found the quality low and the "mall Ninja" quotient pretty high. Your mileage may vary;).

Not sure what you mean here. The K shown here is a Cutter Knife & Tool (CKT) Kerambit made by Tom Kyle. It's a custom build.
Tom has just finished moving shop and started making his very nice knives again. I'm not sure if his website is fully functional again?
The Crowfoots were borrowed from Simonichs' website.

Anyone own/have held a Mantis Karambit? thats about the right price for my first k-bit, and it fits my criteria. Just curious about ring size/ergos.
:)
Thanks, guys.

Piercieve,
I have the MK1 Mantis Karambit as well as the Spyderco WT Karambit. In my hands, the Mantis is the perfect size, comfortable and the ring size fits my fingers; whereas, I find the Spyderco is too wide and the ring diameter too large. It's just not a good fit and is hard to maneuver. YMMV, of course. :D
Agent Starling :spyder:
not a big fan of Karambit without the curved blade,
I feel like I'm getting jipped :p
I guess the curved blade is part of what I expect from a Karambit.

I just cant find any other cheap kbits. I may just get the mantis and become a mall ninja. :D
