this might be a personal question so you dont have to post.

I help people that are in credit card debt, its not consolidation. that has a 90% failure rate.

Debt settlement actually, which means you make a monthly payment to a trust that grows over time and i negotiate the balance that is already late or people that choose to go late to get out of debt.

if you actually think about credit cards, the minimum payments are engineered to keep you in debt for around 30 years. making 50k of credit card debt turn into around 200k +.

we get people out of credit card debt within 3-4 years of making a payment smaller than your minimum was for all creditors combined and usually save our clients around 50% of the original balance with dedication of our clients making a consistent monthly payment.

if you do the math, paying your minimum monthly payment is 6 times greater than getting sued on your full balances and paying the full balance. this is of course is the worst case situation but it proves a point.

anyways i hate credit cards and btw i even use them so im not innocent, they dont loan you money to help you, they hope you default and keep paying them those minimum payments forever..

sorry for all the detail...

this is my profession

I install interlocking brick and stones. used to be mostly stair systems, driveways, and retaining walls but nowadays ppl are asking for cooler things. barbecues made of stone, fountains and outdoor bars are getting more popular. I also do some soft landscaping: tree/shrub planting, sod, etc. but the stonework is what I love to do. I get to spend my days outside all year round. Also good for keeping in shape!

Riot, credit cards are evil. I burned all mine a decade ago. All I use now is a VISA debit card or cash. If I don't have the money for it, I don't buy it. It was a hard lesson, but I learned to live within my means. I'll take living debt-free over having all the latest cool stuff any day.

Job 1 40hrs/week: I *am* the warranty dept for waverider, units come in from world wide and all go through my hands. 900mhz wireless internet, both indoor and outdoor (25mile line of sight, 8 mile non). Officially I'm a "Warranty Repair Technician" at a major OEM for telecomm equipment on the distribution end.

Job 2 20-30hr/week: I *am* the IT dept for a courier company with 30 staff members and a total of 7 systems. I do everything for them, from building, maintaining, cleaning, backing up (on and off-site), and working on getting a web page going for em. Have 1 backup tower off-site ready to plug in, fully configured and updated.

Job 3 10-15hrs/week: Private / on-call IT work, currently 8 ppl using me (2 of which run a business from home), and likely just set myself up with another business today. Maintenance and cleaning on systems from 95 to vista. I've got parts to rebuild 5-6 systems and 4 working complete towers with xp pro installed sitting in the basement (updated and ready to run).

As you can tell, I spend a lot of time working with computers. About 1/2 my book collection is computer related. Jobs 2 & 3 get the income cycled back into computer parts and books. In the process of building 2 more systems for myself, just waiting on the motherboards to come in... and picked up another old tower to rebuild today.

I loved reading all the previous posts. Happy at work makes the best job!

I am a Radiology Project Manager that sets up Mammography Centers and I also teach about breast cancer. And personally, a cancer survivor. (that is almost a full time job, in itself!)

Love the Spyderco's.:spyder:...it's totally different in this world (Spydieland), then my daily world.

I've been lobbying for a pink spyderhawk for years...but am so excited to see the PINK NATIVE announced!!! Slow and steady, will win the RACE against Cancer!

Thanks to you all for such a wonderful distraction and hobby.

Hugs and Health,

Ms. Delica:p

I've been working at scrap yard in baltimore for about 3 years now, running equipment for the last 2 1/2 or so. I run hydraulic cranes. We have 11 cranes in the yard with attachments varying- grapple, shear, or magnet. I primarily run one of our magnet cranes- a 2007 Liebherr 934 that we got about 6 months ago. The thing is nice-it's like a 80,000 pound cadillac (or i guess a BWM or mercedes being that it's a european company.) ;) The sick thing is the ammount of fuel that it uses- on average I go through 65-70 gallons of diesel a day, and I have one of our more efficient machines.
That's really cool, I work most of my days next to a yard which is now getting ready to install a car shreader, they run Puch Terex machines, so how loud is it going to get for me ?

Power engineer, otherwise an operator (they used to call us steam engineers in the old days).

Work in sour gas plant, the acid gas coming off the top of the stills is around 87% sour (H2S) at our plant. It has essentially 870 to 1000 times the concentration required to knock you down in a breath. Through the Claus process it is converted to pure elemental sulphur.

i think i should comment on this again:

if you read the first post i did about my job description i love what i do!

recently the company that i work for & i have gone through alot of bull**** that i do NOT agree with, somethings along the lines of moral issues that i dont believe in about helping people with credit card issues.

that being said a few funders have come across to me latley and are truly interested in the type of business that i do, its a simple process of what we do! we get people out of credit card debt and we charge a minimal fee & im really great at it (not to toot my own horn though)

im a soon leaving the company that makes me huge $ and doing this on my own, its a huge leap but honestly if im not happy with the company i work for anymore & my heart is truly not there anymore, i need to move on, wish me luck, i only get one life and im doing it regardless if it doesnt work!

-- Youth and Outreach Coordinator for a women's shelter... I do a lot of prevention education, and run support groups for kids. Also, lots of grant-writing type stuff... and I help out in many other ways around the shelter in a pinch.

and

and

AND

-- Subsistance Fisherman. I've kept myself and my two roommates very well fed off fish this past year... :D I've only kept what we need... thousands have gotten released. I vastly prefer fly fishing with flies I tie myself, even in salt water.

In my spare time, I hunt for Sasquatches.

sasquatch hunting means travelling into remote parts of the rain forest up here... i usually take my aqua salt or rock salt, both excellent survival knives. a CS kukhri comes along on longer, deeper excursions into the bush. i've been taking along a new mora knife i picked up, as well, as i think it has great survival potential (thus far, not really tested...)

i'd love an H1 sasquaxe!!!! :D:D or a sasquatchet. or sasquahawk... :D

Good to see you Marc, finally get to put a face to the name. Nice looking rig (from the front) we got a new tanker but it's built on a Frieght-shaker and gutless but then it is trying to move 63,000 lbs in the mountains at 4500'.

All you career guys make me wish I stuck it out, about the time I figured out what I was doing wrong, I was quite content to live in a small town in the mountains and just be a volley paid guy. Good on ya Marc and all the best to you and Pete.

I was a teacher of middle school kids (11 to 15) for forty years. The last 20 I was a Vice-Principal and every Saturday was supervising principal of the Heritage Language programme ( Saturday morning classes in 21 different languages for kids who wanted to learn or keep up their parent's original tongue. 4 hours every Saturday for 33 weeks of the school year. About 1200 kids a year.) I did that for 21 years.
And now I am happily and thankfully retired!

Former commercial lobster fisherman, now working as a deckhand on towboats on the Illinois River, moving barges from chicago to peoria. Not as exciting or as glamorous as fishing but it pays the bills is safer (for the most part) and has benefits. Plus its another good knife job with lots of things to cut. :) I get to give a different knife a 21 day workout every hitch. This trip its probably going to be a black SE Tasman salt, or if i can pick one up in the next 4 days, a SE delica.

John McPhee's book Uncommon Carriers has an article on when he traveled up and down the Illinois river with a crew moving barges.

McPhee has another article in that book that professional sailors might like to read. McPhee visits boat driving school located on a lake in the Swiss Alps. The students ride in scale sized ships and practice maneuvering.
