No, it didn't involve my Spydie. [ Thank goodness! ] I was just working in the garage with my brother on intalling new garage doors when 'it' happened. I was using the chop-saw cutting 2x4's into 3 inch pieces, when the darn thing had a nasty kick-back and drew my hand into the blade. I couldn't believe how fast it all took place. I remember just feeling a numbness at first, and then a wave of pain in my fingers. The only thing that saved my hand from being 'chop suey' was the plastic blade guard. When the 2x4 was thrown, it went right back into the guard. This bent the guard right into the path of the blade, thus stopping it from further cutting downwards.
The only finger that was cut was my middle finger on my left hand. It really isn't that bad of a cut, but it sure got my attention! My brother came running over and said, "Well, lets take you to the emergency room." I told him that it wasn't that bad, so I just wrapped it up and took a break.
Thank goodness for guards! I never liked them until now.
Cheers!

SpyderNut,
OUCH! Glad to know you are well enough to comment on it. I wish you a fast recovery.

Thank you, Kahz. I appreciate the kind words.
It IS kinda hard to type, but I'm glad I still know the old 'peck and poke' style. It has come in handy.
I think I'll hang up my tool belt for a while....

SpyderNut,
The important thing is, can you still open a Spyderco only with your left hand? If not, then that's the best sign to actually go to the hospital. Ok, kidding aside, is your hand movement fine? I hope so. Stay safe.

**Attempting to open Calypso Jr. with left hand**
Whoa! I guess i'm just on the verge on needing medical attention! I can't open my Calypso with the usual speed and smoothness. Since the shock has worn off, my middle finger has begun to hurt more, but I think the bleeding has slowed....[ I have it bandaged well. ]
I'll be in recovery just playing with my Spydies....

SpyderNut,
YIKES! The bleeding has "slowed"? Are you sure you don't need stitches, young man???? *hands on hips, desperately tapping her foot on the floor, scolding attitude*
If you intend to be such a brave young man, I don't want to hear you complaining later on about being unable to swiftly open your Spydies.
LOL!
So, if you are replying so fast, I assume you ARE ok.

Kahz,
Yes, Mom, you're right. I probably should have gone for stitches.
Last night when I took the bandage off to take a shower I thought that it had stopped bleeding, only the warm water caused the cut to reopen. Oops! I got the 'red stuff' all over my mother's shower curtain.
So I've had to keep it bandaged all night. I haven't looked at it today yet, as I don't know if it is going to reopen or not.
**Struggling to get Pink Cricket open**
Well, maybe in a few days I will be able to deploy my Spydies with the speed and swiftness that I enjoy.
Thank you both, Kahz and Samo, for your concern. I have a surprise coming that I will mention later.

Ouch !!!
My boss did this last year with a bench mounted saw, lost the top 1" of his finger, he still has no idea how as he was using a push stick.
One word of warning, if you were cutting tanalised (or other treated wood), you might want to go get it checked out. Arsentic is a common ingediant when treating wood, and a cut like this tends to spray fine sawdust into the wound.
My boss found this out when after a month his finger still wasn't healing properly. Once the hospital re-looked at the wound and took the sawdust out, the finger healed fine.
Good luck, and play safe

sorry to hear about that dude, hope u get well soon and don't get left with a scar or nething. my old DT (woodwork to yanks) teacher at school was preaching to us one day about safety around the saws and sanders, that very same night he lopped off the top 1/2 inch of his thumb. shouldn't laugh at him but he was a right tit, everybody hated him. neway get well soon!

**...the katchup coming...** LOL!
Kahz,
Well, I think its safe to say that the cut has finally started to seam itself back together somewhat, although I haven't taken a shower yet, either. That should be the real acid test. At class today, my communications professor mentioned that I probably should have gotten stitches.
A quote from John Wayne came to mind:
"Ain't nothin' but a flesh wound."
Ok, so its not the best motto to adhere to, but it works in a pinch.
BTW, I have my 'surprise' posted now, as it has finally arrived today. Yippee!

Hey, if you do lose dexterity in that hand and can no longer open a folder, we are increasing our fixed blade line..... Oh, I'm SOOOO just kidding.
Hope that heals up and you get better soon.
